I’m a late 2017 hire in a west coast base and received this email yesterday. Called up planning and it’s legit based on where I fall in the base. FWIW… Bid what you want, you just might get it sooner rather than later.

Just FYI: they don’t inform you when you’ve been selected for lance. I found out today I was selected for October but no training slots available. Took me two emails and three phone calls to SWA crew planning and swapa contract admin to figure it out. November I lost the slot due to going from 49 to 51 in base. 🤷♂️

I have an email into SWAPA asking this same question, but I'll put it out to the brains here...
How do you tell on the initial vacancy award if someone (or yourself) got a Lance captain award? As far as I can see, planning just surprises lances with a call saying you're going to upgrade when we feel like sending you. Kinda sucks too for guys that try to clear their schedules like me because my intention is to load it up prior to going to upgrade so that they have to pull those trips.

For others...wait to see if they get a star next to their name on the bid letter. If you don't want to wait for the bid pack, check the training awards and/or look at their board. If SWAPA has a better way I'm interested to know.
