I flew a five leg day once, maybe 4 years ago. There aren't many. 4 leg days aren't so common either.
Where Southwest get's it's pound of flesh is having a long leg, then adding on to it. While your United friend flies IAD-PHX, overnights, then flies IAD-PHX, you'll do BWI-PHX-SMF. Then day 2 will be SMF-BWI-ALB-BWI. They always add a few short legs onto a long leg.

Average legs/day is neighborhood of 2.5. If I do 4 legs in a day, it’s a lot of work. I think I’ve done 1 5 leg day. Been here 3 years (albeit with some mil leave).
