SAT airport leadership has slit their own throat. They scorned their biggest carrier and most loyal partner and now SWA is moving in with the young hottie up the highway.

Management had a choice where to spend money, where to deploy state incentives, where to hitch it’s wagon for the future and the choice they made is clear…… AUS over SAT.

Odd infatuation. I don’t think any of this makes sense. You think SAT and AUS were final contestants for the new base? Are you scorned because you live in SAT? I don’t get what’s driving you to beat this weird drum.

Yeah, that might sound normal to you but that isn’t normal at all. Nobody wants to deep dive into the Delta forum to research your personal relationship with your small sized hat.

Nope.

I don’t get what is driving people to defend SAT airport leadership or dismiss this as “just business”.

AUS has great numbers and tremendous growth both domestic and international. In a way, further expansion at AUS was a no brainer. But to turn a blind eye to how SAT leadership pretty much encouraged the usually conservative and slow Southwest management to jump into bed with AUS is puzzling.

I’m actually glad it happened this way because it may have jumpstarted a transformation to growth here at trailways.

By the way, I have been in the Delta One lounge in JFK. It was excellent. 2030 is very far away. Most airlines(including yours) can’t see that far ahead. Competitive landscape changes constantly as well as the economy. I admit that there are not many cities left that have a high O&D and have the geography for connections that make sense. AUS fits that very well.
Delta One lounge construction for ATL, MSP, SLC, and DTW is confirmed, just not built.

Delta is publicly trying to keep two club spaces. Would two Skyclubs work? I doubt it, most likely a Delta One club to throw D1 pax on future long haul flights whether DL-metal or JV operated.

2030 is unfortunately a very long time a lot is likely bound to happen. But, I wouldn’t discount Delta’s ability to commit to a long-term plan. For better or worse, Delta will leech onto an airport/city for decades even if it’s to lose money to become #1 (NYC, LAX, BOS) or #2 (SEA). I think AUS will be a 40-40-20 split in share unless someone retreats. The lease agreement was signed months ago and is set in stone. The agreement puts Delta and Southwest at similar market share when B goes live. Very interesting years ahead.

Blah blah blah.... Gate utilization. Look it up.

And to all of the actual SW Bubbas here. It's Austin. I told you so. In your face. 😹
