“We are not and never will be like other airlines.”
You mean like the ones that are making almost $5 billion in profit?
Soon we’re gonna be ripping the #2 engine off the plane because we need a “differentiator”.
Why can’t this company just accept there are some things that are industry standard?

Well..after reading the SWAPA email I see myself doing a whole bunch of "on scene leadership" right in the critical few minutes before push. I won't be letting the door close until the jumpseaters are figured out and will not be putting JS in a position to get written up by FAs.
I hope captains understand the idea of malicious compliance. Two minutes before push when you should have your numbers, if there’s an acceptable seat in the back for a JS, send them up top to get their pass. You can’t leave without them because their bags are all on board and you’ll just have to wait to get new numbers anyway because weight and balance will change when they move. Ops supes are going to be losing their minds. Write em up when it happens.
Oh well. We didn’t write this idiotic procedure.

A jumpseater up front while there are seat seats in the back is just asinine . Other airlines require the JS to sit in the back when there are open seats . To me, it is almost a safety issue that needs to be addressed with the FAA. Making someone sit up front is pure crazy .

Im pretty sure OAL cannot sit upfront if there are seats in the back.
this is one of those policies no one is going to follow and there will be 10 different ways to get a seat and there will be a lot of infighting amongst work groups.
Almost like the companynis trying to pit pilots against their union and other work groups before a contract negotiation. Weird?
Also heard from a union guy they wanted standard practice and something that makes sense but company wouldnt agree to it.
I said ok then why did we agree? He couldn't give me an answer.

It’s going to be sad to watch this same group become swapa roadies and lanyard police when the next contract season starts. Everyone will become super swapa defenders. Every time a serious inquiry is made on this forum, the response will be “did you go to the picket?” 😂

Our union boss should focus more on our interest and less on his secretary.
Joke aside, there is no penalty in case we get to DH in a middle seat and that is not ok. No override given. What a substandard job from SWAPA.
comparing to JS process from the other 3, where else to we fall short?
I think the company needed to resolve that issue to continue negotiating on the re opening. I am astonished we sell ourself that cheap on the d/h jumpseat issue. No penalty for middle seat means there will use the loophole when they can.
Let your reps know. We got to get good wording on next contract.
