Deadheading & Assigned Seating
#91
They're referring to the travel document where they say NONREV travelers should sit behind the wing. You can find this document on swalife.
The word should means diddly squat to me on so many levels. First and foremost, until it says "shall", kindly eff off. 'Should' is a suggestion, 'shall' is a requirement. By default, the FA suggestion is noted and promptly rejected.
Second, if I'm deadheading, I'm working - I'm paid to be there, so yeah, I'm taking the best damn seat there is.
Going forward with assigned seating, this is gonna be interesting... middle seat regular seat? Highly uncomfortable for many and this level of discomfort could possibly lead to a fatigue call. I would imagine most people taller than 6'2" will find themselves cramped and uncomfortable in the middle seats in the back of the plane.

the problem is have is the amount of power the CSAs are going to wield.
My suggestion, and I've done this, works well, is to call NOC and have the CP contact the CSA's supervisor and have them deal with it. Takes about 2 min and you can stand there while they get the phone call.
there was a CSA in DEN that routinely wouldnt clear JS, JS not non rev, because she was waiting on final weights etc. Two times I called the NOC in front of her and now she just hands me the boarding pass without talking.
I don't argue, I dont plead my case. If im a DH and there's a problem and im not going home I miss the flight. If im on my own time i deal with their supervisor.

The DH debacle is 100% about revenue.
Someone finally sat down and took a look at the amount of DH'ing that happens around the system and realized how much revenue it was going to cost them. It's why they said you can BUY the premium seat. I just operated a DAL-DEN flight that had 22 DH crew members. That's 22 premium seats that don't go to paying pax and if a pax already paid, that's money that the company has to compensate.
Not our problem that the company didn't fully realize the cost of the 'premium seating' clause in the new CBA.

It kind of is our problem ,since the company does not view the contract the same way SWAPA does
2026 should be different though, bojo said employees come first .
. ( Deep sarcasm for anyone who is not at SWA)

Well..after reading the SWAPA email I see myself doing a whole bunch of "on scene leadership" right in the critical few minutes before push. I won't be letting the door close until the jumpseaters are figured out and will not be putting JS in a position to get written up by FAs.

WTF is going on with SWAPA?
Gotta luv even more vague language of " on or around the 11th". JFC!
Remember the company think adjacent is anywhere between two trips not next to.
"Around" may mean when we get around to it.
SWAPA doesn't speak for me anymore if this is what they think is ok.
Its simething so small and easy and everyone already does it and they royally eff it up.

no this is SWAPA making it confusing. They agreed to this crap, and it won't even be implemented for almost 6 months. What a joke. Its been in the contract for 2 yrs plus it's not even an IT issue.

I feel like we’re constantly being punk’d.
“hey, we’re reducing your arrival fuel to 4.8. Didn’t work last time but we got better software now….so trust us”
”our way of staffing is great! 600 displacements isn’t bad…”
”here’s a flow chart to figure out how to pick a seat on the app…”
“Here’s a 12 page memo on how to set the missed altitude…”
“The PF is the PE unless they tell the PM to do some PE and then the PF is the PV. Got it? Execute!”
Policies shouldn’t be written by idiots who do less time in a jet in a year than most do in a week.

And so many think these swapull clowns were any different. It’s the same association it’s always been. Funny stuff really. My GAS meter is empty swapull can shove all this up their butts. It’s not worth trying to get people on board. This pilot group is hopeless. Next contract won’t do anything SWA doesn’t want SWApULL to do. Those clowns just look at what color the drapes will be. Maybe the SC can work against us or JR.

Seriously…how hard is it to just give a jumpseater the best seat available at time of check in? And then let them pre-board. If the flight fills up, you call FDJS or 4th on 4th and the last pax gets your seat. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DOES IT.
