This is exactly what I have been saying. I think people get so emotionally charged about scope that they can't see the forest for the trees. I can be pro-scope and still be okay with a separate pay scale on our list. There is no chance you are going to pay a 175 CA the same rate as a 737 CA. It doesn't happen anywhere because it's not feasible. I still want our pilots flying the jets, though; I'm OK with a different rate.
Precisely... I don't know why we're all hung up on pay scale of a smaller plane, but if it's something much smaller like 175... so what? So this plane goes junior then... I'm sure every Delta or United pilot would love to be on a Dreamliner/A350 pay scale, but unfortunately, some are flying "the best jet ever made" (717 according to some Trannies, for all the new guys here), others are flying B737 or A320's and they're all on different scales are they not? I'd much rather have our junior pilots fly the lower paying airplane and have seniority dictate who flies what than outsource the flying and potentially putting their livelihoods at risk.

For what it's worth, we've had a blended rate for a while. We flew the 737-500 (122 seats) and the -800 (175) seats for the same rate since the -800 showed up in 2013. 43% more seats for the same money.
If they're going to add wide bodies or RJs, it's going to require an un-blending of the 737 rate as well, I think.

considering the union said during last contract education cycle we should be getting paid WB rates for the 737 based on productivity and how much we made the company i think there should be no problem if another smaller jet pays our current 737 rates and we negotiate a higher WB rate for the 737.
youre right tho it's just a mental exercise. But the real gymnastics will be when the union convinces us we should give away our scope for helping the company grow and the company promises to take care of us this next contract. But for reals this time. Pinky promise

The small plane won't be in all bases so one cant say itll only affect jr people.
unless guys woth 20 yrs here now have to commute to stay on the better paying plane because there base no longer flies it.
Just like the legacies I guess

I would be surprised if anyone hired past 4 years would be fine to fly a lower paying jet. Won’t happen. Nobody joined swa to do regional flying at lower pay. If the difference is small such as for a DL guy on A220 vs 737 then would be ok. Otherwise no. It would not be fair to wish that on our junior colleagues. We all came to one of the big 4 for a benchmark in terms of pay. A 175 is not the benchmark we joined swa for. Anyway, all speculation for now without any management comments. The only thing said last year by Bob was about a long range airplane for intl destinations that is being considered.
A Smaller fleet means less open time for us on 737, less money to be made. According to the latest Swapa podcast the talk is more focused on a WB, i hope they are right.

what if they say the 175 will only be in Dallas and they will severely chop the 737 that flies out of the Dallas bid packet, will it be a jr plane then?

Having said that, I don't see the company ditching seats and capacity for more smaller gauge planes. Wall Street would kill them.

Having said that, we really need to learn from history and PRONTO as some of the comments here appear to be coming from the people who either forgot, or don't know the history and how outsourcing can really screw our collective careers much more so than having a slightly lower paying airframe on our property.

Let's take it a step further. Suppose they indeed severely chop the 737 flying that flies out of the Dallas bid packet, and it gets outsourced to be flown by pilots not on our seniority list. Seriously, we're not reinventing the wheel here. This actually happened industry-wide even though a bunch of our new FO's were in elementary school when the industry was in shambles and outsourcing decimated pilot careers. .

Me too.
