Airtran/Southwest AIP in a nutshell

How is the Delta deal so hilarious?
I'll give you a SWAPA crit. (and I am no ALPA apologist, not by a long shot) Why didn't you ask more from the company if you wanted value for your participation? You like to talk of your big watch and all your big paychecks yet you apparently aren't getting any payraise for this deal? Why not? You haven't EVER raised the bar for the rest of the industry. Here was your chance, and yet again, you fail to deliver. We and UCAL will raise it for the next time you negotiate. You're welcome. But I guess you just figure that you are going to get your payraises through the seniority you will steal with management's SLI?
I don't care whether it is a train wreck or not, but you are naive if you truly believe that it isn't headed that way. Good luck stud. Go wind your watch.

Here is a news flash for you and everyone who doesn't work for this airline. I don't work to make improvements for any other employee groups but SWA. When I cast my little vote it isn't for you or any other pilot group. RAISE YOUR OWN BAR!
Sincerely,

I keep hearing this over and over. What is SWAPA so worried about in the arbitration process? The answer is nothing. What all the outsiders looking in (and I truly believe that includes AirTran) fail to realize is: SWAPA has yet to make an offer on anything! Every offer that has come forth has been from SOUTHWEST AIRLINES, not SWAPA! .....
It's not really what I would call a true "welcome aboard."
Whatever you want to say about Delta's management, they seemed to stay out of the NWA/DAL negotiations and 6-8 months we had a seniority list. A little more than a year later, we were flying in the same cockpits.
We'll see how long it takes SWA to combine operations, but I doubt if it's that fast. But, it seems as though there will definitely be some therapy needed.

IMO, management having anything to do with the SLI discussions is a big mistake. How they will come off to the AT pilots as anything other than an overreaching step-parent who favors their own kid and only begrudgingly takes you into their house because they have to, I don't know.

During your merger I talked to more than one NWA pilot who was going to need therapy after the merger.

I am sick and tired of you folks bringing down the industry pay rates for more than a DECADE. How's that? Does it sound silly? It is exactly what you attribute to SWA. Since I have been a SWA, I have enjoyed industry leading compensation and work rules. I enjoy a work environment that is hospitable and comfortable. I wasn't here when the whole thing started and I can't be held accountable for previous contracts. What I can be held accountable for is the compensation package that I agreed to and the contracts I have been a part of. You should own up to the same.

(Especially, if the rumor is true, that you guys are going to downgrade 400 or so AT captains. Not because you need to, not because it saves the company money --because of course, it costs more money --but apparently just so you can put them in their place. Nice. )
Also, there is a difference in needing therapy for what a neutral arbitrator did to you and needing therapy from what a management team who says you are now part of our family (after the hazing), did to you.
