No dog Etc... This Alaska pilot hopes the TA goes down in flames. But let me address the notion, "The government will never let us strike." Everyone really needs to stop propagating that meme. It's nonsense. Whether a stike is allowed is purely political and that's something no one can really predict. Secondly, the THREAT of a strike and all the drama associated with the threat is very effective. Hours of debate. Tons of press. A huge drop off in ticket pre-sales, all add up and pressure both sides to the table. The president, whomever he or she may be, may or may not end the strike after a minute or a week or month. No one can know. But we do know the rhetoric of a strike is powerful.

Not picking up open time is a personal choice, the union hasn't asked me not to because that would be illegal. It is a matter of principle and I wish many, many more would join me. It's a lot better solution than what others are suggesting in order to "manufacture" leverage. The company can't force you to pick up open time and the union can't ask you not to but as a purely personal choice, it's a sound one.

I see your point. I agree, it is a personal choice and I like where your head is, I just can't see ****ing into the wind like that at the expense of my family (I don't spend my money on airplanes and boats...yet). If it were to become a "thing" that we did as a unified group, I would be all in, just like I would gladly walk the line with any of you. I can live just fine on 90tfp or less.

The UPS Pilots' union (I.P.A.) put out a nice timeline that details the RLA steps here: Independent Pilots Association
The one thing that they don't mention, and many have alluded to here, is what actually can happen after a PEB if Congress does get involved. They CAN impose contract terms on both parties. In order to do so Congress has to believe that a strike / lock-out would irreparably harm the economy of the U.S.
Likely that it would ever get that far? No.
Possible? Yes, but so is winning the lottery.
Good luck!

I can solve the division problem easy.
We call the international division (ND) the "Top Gun" division. Then only PHX pilots bid it so they can prove that they're the 'best of the best'. Then 'Iceman' can brief the sortie to Belize City with his 'wingman' at oh-three-hundred.

A few years from now when and if you acquire another company that has regional jets flying around, you'll have southwest express flying 100 seat ERJ190, CRJ1000, or CS100 and CS300, and even the Mitsubishi regional jet. Captains will be flying these for $70 and hour, FO's at 35 an hour.
I just don't get why some of you refuse to acknowledge past mistakes made my the big 3.

Money is not the issue, scope is. There is no amount of money that can buy scope back. The TA cannot be allowed to pass with scope changes.

It boggles my mind as well. You'd think a bunch of professional pilots would be smart enough to learn from the mistakes of others. I can't even believe that there's still some who are even having to contemplate how they're going to vote. Really?!

All it takes is a bonus equal to one month's pay and a small raise.
