If asking me:
No, we need all hard lines together to have a minimum average days off. SWA lines are built to have on average per base, no more than 13 days work in a 30 day month and no more than 13.5 days in a 31 day month. Their hard lines have a minimum of 12 days off, but there are virtually no lines with 12 days off because for every one of them there has to be a line with 22 days off.

We don't have 4.5 hr min day credit, we have 4.5 hr min duty credit:
Trip starts Thursday 24th, ends Sunday 27th (early AM), so takes up 4 calendar days, pays 3x4.5=13.5 hr credit.
Pairing # L4272 : 24MAY
L4272 : 24MAY ONLY ON THU BSE REPT: 2300L Operates: May 24 Only
Base/Equip: LAS/321 CA01FO01
T.A.F.B.: 4940 TRIP RIG: 0045
Total: 1245 0000 1330 1724/1554

If I go to work at 8am on day one, let's say the 24th, and work the same TAFB I'm off by 10am on the 26th...why should I get 4 calendar days for that? Don't get me wrong min calender day would have been awesome and really put the contract in the same league as the legacies, but it will just have to be a nice goal for the next contract.

Probably not the best example (I'm sure there are worse pairings) since it only goes into the 4th calendar day by 10 minutes. TAFB is barely over 2 days. Even so, with 3.5 trip rig it will pay 14:10ish after the rigs are in effect. A 14-hour 3-day is not that bad where I am(not nearly 5.5/calendar day, but still better than 4.5/FDP).

It should be duty and/or daily. 2 duty periods in one day, 2 guarantees. Red-eye spans 2 days but is one duty, 2 guarantees. So on.

Garbage in, garbage out. The optimizer doesn't care about commutability, days off, or inefficient trips, it only builds lines to the minimum contractual parameters that save the company the most amount of money. The new rigs should improve efficiency and commutability some, when we finally get them. Until then, plan on lots of 14 day off 72 hour lines.

PBS should be an improvement over our current situation considering the improved rigs that will kick in with PBS implementation. Most of the lines in LAS this month were 13/14 days off. Some of them were in the 85-90 credit range but a lot were around 74-76 credit. That’s pretty horrendous. I really don’t understand the obsession with line bidding. It’s archaic and pretty much pointless now that transition conflict is gone.
