So about that email yesterday about crew bases.

was he trying to say if somebody leaves a base that’s being reduced it will shrink with it?

For example let’s say 5 ORD skippers leave for ATL, then ORD will shrink by 5 captains?

or are they contractually obligated to backfill those five positions? couldn’t really tell what he was getting it.

Wasn’t entirely clear but I think you’re correct. Organic reduction. “reductions will only occur where vacancies are created in a domicile due to a pilot leaving the company.”
Maybe the MEC will send a clarification email?

They mean 5 ORD captains leave the company, instead of putting out 5 vacancies in ORD (As it's contractually required), they will publish a reduction bid for -5 ORD CA, as is the only way to contractually shrink a base.

So basically whatever your relative seniority is at this moment in one of those bases will be frozen for a while give or take a couple leaving ahead and behind.

Sounds like the company is circumventing voluntary and involuntary displacements. This might save money and not hurt anyone but feels like non-compliance with the CBA.

Soooooooo, voluntarily bidding for a new base, do you lose your vacation?? It's been too long since Orlando opened I can't remember how that went down.

June attrition: 97 pilots hired, 56 to attrition, and 51 net gain. YTD 456 hired, 219 to attrition, 200 net gain.
