The Aussies are good people. Good aviators too. No ill will, but Americans come first
Aussie pilots are unionized pilots and are afforded the same "duty of fair representation" as pilots born on US soil. So its just not as simple as saying "next round of furloughs we will get rid of the Visa pilots first", because like it or now, SPA ALPA would legally be required to file arbitration for furloughing out of the order prescribed in the CBA.

Foreign carriers also terminate pilots for refusing to fly when fatigued, so trying to meet those standards is not the benchmark we/you should be striving for as a unionized carrier in the USA.

Aussie pilots pay their dues and work under the same CBA protections as any other NK pilot. This isnt about USA vs Foreign, it's about CBA and the obligation SPA ALPA has to follow it.

Exactly right. Good insight. You start letting management furlough out of seniority order for any reason it just opens a can of worms. Next let’s find a reason (legal loophole) to go top to bottom which is what they really want to do in downturn's.

I never once mentioned or eluded to furloughing out of order. I said to not renew their visas. The CBA doesn’t force the company to renew their visas.

Spirit union is / should prioritize seniority over nationality. You can write a request/wishlist to management to not renew the visas. That’s probably your best shot at screwing over your fellow pilots. Good luck.

Just saw this. Sorry guys. When it rains it pours.

I don’t know why there’s been zero communication regarding this. Sort of a big deal no?

If you go back a page, you’d know that I said that I don’t have any skin in the game anymore. In this situation, a fellow pilot is getting the short end of the stick regardless of nationality. I’d rather prioritize an American worker over a foreign one (as should any other nation), but that’s above all of our pay grade and none of this back and forth matters

This forum is for Spirit Airlines Pilots. Not American Workers. We all have certain ideas and preferences about how things should be. Are you addressing it in the right forum? I would say no, that’s my irritation. Like you said, this back and forth doesn’t matter. We can agree on that

Uhhhh , its for all pilots, and i'm sure 95% are most likely American workers! What other forum should they be on?

This is the Spirit thread on a pilot forum. This issue benefits your seniority maybe, but doesn’t benefit the pilot group as a whole. The unions position almost certainly will be to protect its members. Whether Americans or not.

It’s more of a political topic than an issue that’s gonna help or hurt the pilot group. Some sort of political forum I think would be more appropriate.
