so with the chief pilots message about the efb, can we use them to look up manuals? And how are we to get familiar with how they work if we can not use them? I thought we just could not rely on them, I.e. You still take out and use your charts and use those as primary reference. I mean after October 10 are we still going to have to carry our charts as a backup while we use the efb? Or will we magically be fully proficient on October 10 and no longer carry our pubs while trying to figure out how the efb works for the very first time?
On or after Oct 10 or whatever date they say, you may use them on the flight deck. I think you need to carry your charts for 10 to 12 flight segments after that date. When you've finished that, then you will not need to carry your charts anymore.

Yes, not to be used on the Flight Deck...ie...don't have the mount out and have the efb sitting in it. I'd love to see the look on someone's face when the FAA sees them with the efb out and sitting in its mount and asks...."where's your letter of authorization?"

The EFB is extremely easy to use. Unless you still use a flip phone and have no idea what an "app" is, it'll take you minutes to be comfortable with the EFB.
I am betting that our reward is a pizza party. The big discussion between mgmt and the NC is whether it should be CiCis or Little Ceasars. Any takers?
Personally, I just prefer a TA that I feel pleased about voting yes .

Just for S&G we looked inside the bag in the storage closet. Between the two of us we couldn't figure out how to install the mounts. So we put them back up in the bag.
It's like getting into the first sim session in newhire. We could do the normal procedures but had no clue how to adjust the seats properly.
So come October we'll get authorization to use them but we still can't because we can't get the mounts installed properly.

But way to bash our FAA guys who have been nothing but awesome towards the pilot group. I hope you get to see that when you do your FAA observation.
^^^^ this. Charlie is awesome.
I've been told the validation period isn't so much for the technology but, rather for the typical failure point, us. It's apparently there for the test group to work out the human factors issues, you know, like following procedures...

Also, like 390Setblue said, Charlie is a great guy, anyone who says otherwise doesnt know him or hasn't dealt with him.
