I dont really know if it is good at all. What keeps Company from doing something like:

MON: Red Eye
TUE: Red Eye
WED: Red Eye
THU: OFF
FRI: Red Eye

Contract 4 days off between pairings.

I think the rule also states after 3 red eyes, you need 24 hr rest. So it will be 3 in a row, 24 off, then a 'normal' hour 2 day or something. Total nonsense; I'm better rested when I get in the 'groove' of back side flying than flipping things around. Who were the so called 'scientists' that did this fatigue study?!

I know that, then why isn't there 4 days off between red eyes, if every red eye it's a paring?.

Guys, we can't have a day off in the middle like that. The contract says we get four days off between sets of work days. Those scenarios can not happen. What can and probably will happen is 3 daytime turns followed by 3 night turns, which will be bad for commuters (non commutable both ends). The redeyes will be limited, because the duty day at night is much shorter. In DTW, we now get redeye turns to LAS because the company could show the flight time to be 7:58 in the winter months. But with the new rules, you can't fit that in along with :45 minutes duty before and a 1/2 hour after into a 9 hour duty day. Unfortunately, I think ORD-LAS will still be possible, but barely. I haven't read all the way through the rules yet, so I may be wrong, but this is my take.

I believe we are going to start seeing, eventually that is, pairings that start elsewhere other than FLL and overnight in those very red eye cities and perhaps eliminating some red eye turns altogether with said overnights. I need coffee...

How will it be commuting/trip trading from SEA/PDX? That is if I make it through the interview/training and IOE...

Commuting here is just like anywhere else. I'm assuming you would shoot for the LAS base. Reserves cannot pick up open time or really do much trading. Is that what you are asking?

Boredwlife, if you're not to busy freezing your butt off up north how was the PDX commute? Alaska stopped the direct to FLL correct?
