I can't even comment on this, so I'm just gonna leave this here:

Captain UpgradeISARP FLT 1.5.4Pilots will not be awarded a Captain position involving captain upgrade training unless they possess the following:• An ATP-MEL written• 3000 total pilot hours• 1000 total pilot hours in 121 operations (or Military IAW 121.436)• 750 hours First Officer flight time with the Company• At least 250 hours as a Sun Country pilot on the same aircraft type. The above requirements, where non-regulatory, may be waived in a non-discriminatory fashion.

yes but the contract is possibly being waved to lower minimums is what I believe he is saying. 121.436 says all you need is 1000 121 time and an ATP to upgrade. Technically, if the contract is waved a 2000 hour UND kid would be able to upgrade.

Anyways how was the 200% LOA getting used over the 4th?

Right about the 3000 hours being CBA, not FAA. The point is it's clearly in the books. The random comment about "common wisdom" that it's 2500 hours is hooey. No one has produced any evidence or sources of that being the case. It takes 30 secs to check the FOM and CBA.

Reread the portion I quoted. I was referring to the comment that the FAA requires 3000TT and 1000 121 SIC. I’m not at Sunny, nor am I familiar with your contract. I was only bringing up the FAA reg as listed. The 2500 that people talk about comes from assuming ATP (non-restricted) at 1500 + 1000 of 121/qualified 135/91 time.

With such a poor contract and reserve is miserable (especially for commuters) why are pilots signing up?

I feel most people think this next contract will be good for the pilots, so it seems like people want to be on the front of a hiring wave.

That's just rhetoric and rumor that the next contract will be good. Look at SCA's history with contracts and you'll know it's just words, they thought the last one was good! Also the rhetoric is 12 to 18 more months, which means in real life at least 3 more years of the current contract. I suspect contract negotiations delayed that long will do substantial harm to Sun Country's growth prospects or possibly even their long term survival. So again, the question remains, why would you come here? Skip the middle man and go directly to a legacy, if you can.

Excellent advice! However quite a few pilots interview with the Big 6 and don’t get hired. Even more don’t even get their application pulled for an interview. Some of those pilots would like to fly a 737 so they apply at the lesser tier airlines that fly them.

It should be a pilot’s market at least until the next economic downturn but even in the best of markets pilots don’t always get hired at their goal airline. This is so obvious I don’t know why it has to be brought up but every airline thread on here has current employees lamenting “why do pilots come here?”

Because they needed a f&*k$ng job and they went to the best airline (for them) that actually offered them one.

Yep, it's why I said, "If" you can.

And your last sentence, with all due respect most don't "need" a SCA job. Unless you mean they "need" the job so they can move on to a legacy then yes, they "need" the job. Enough people are leaving here to go to a legacy, so it's hard to think that all that are coming here "need a f&*k$ng job". Some maybe, but I'm sure most could stay put and move on soon enough at their current employer. No real "need" to come here. IMHO.

Hello all. Just joined and looking over the thread, I am a bit confused.

I received a CJO from Sun Country and have an upcoming interview with Allegiant.

During my interview, everyone seemed very positive, "growth is on the way", and I even briefly met Jude Bricker. It seems like a great company to work for, but after reading here, I am starting to have reservations about even proceeding with my class date. I understand that the staff on interview day has to sell the company to me, but I feel like the closeness of the employees and their attitudes were genuine, unless it's a fake "Minnesota Nice" facade.

I've never flown for an airline, so much of what I will see/learn will be new to me. I realize some things have already been mentioned in this thread, but...from those currently at SY:

What is the true climate like there?
Is Reserve really only 3 months (like they told me at interview) or is it longer?
Are line holders really flying 6 on/1 off/x on trips?
Do people enjoy flying there?
Is scheduling flexible to get time off for the birth of a child?
Will the contract really be revised soon or is that just another carrot on a stick?

Thanks for your time/replies.
