From my research living in base, global isn’t bad especially if you are say on the 787 and only doing international. Yes there’s airport ready etc that sucks

Reserve isn’t bad anywhere on any equipment if you live in base .
Commute to rsv? That’s a different kind of hell .

Well I do think on the NB likelihood to be used and abused is higher just by the frequency of flights. Will have to seeeeee 🫠🙃

I'm on NB reserve and blocked 14 hours this month. YMMV.

did you actually manage to get away with blocks of long call that weren’t converted?

That’s very likely in the slower months. You always start out with long call and can either be given a trip or converted to SC or FSB. The rsv coverage is so high that there just isn’t much coverage needed for open time and lineholders always have priority to pick up opentime to make some extra money. The other reason staying on long call for big chunks of time is after 3 unused SC or FSB, you get an extra hour of pay for subsequent unused SC or FSB. If you know how to play the game, you can spend a lot of the month on LC and block not much but still get paid 73+ hours. If you live in base and don’t mind being tied to your phone it’s not terrible.

People pick up trips for straight pay? That’s crazy talk.

This month was 17 days of reserve, 13 days off, and 1 day of mil leave. During those 17 days, I had 4 unused APU'd SCs, 1 unused APU'd FSB, and 1 APU'd 3-day trip. The rest was long call. I live locally so I don't mind SC at all. End result was 72 hours of credit for 14 hours of flying. Good enough for me, especially on first year pay where really hustling for those extra hours doesn't actually pay that much.
