New Newhire here! I have my heart set on widebody. Anybody have any insight on the difference in schedules/trips/usage freq/seniority on the 777 vs the 78, and ewr vs Sfo? Thanks!

Most the recent drops are only 777 SFO. I don't have the answer to your question but you likely will only have the choice of 777 into SFO. Plan on reserve for a few years it sounds. With being relief flying and needing to go to the sim for landing currency.

If you want WB go for it! But know what you’re getting into. Junior for years, reserve for years. Probably not going to fly the jet very much. Going to the sim for landings classes every 3 months for years. Also remember you are seat frozen for 2 years. However you can bid up. If you start in the 737 or bus and hate it, you can bid up to the 777.. if you start on the 777 and hate it, your ****ed.

Sounds great if you’re local. How difficult is it to drop reserve days and pick up trips if available?

can’t pick up open time when you’re on reserve. You also won’t be dropping any reserve days

huh? That’s not true. However, the situation isn’t great.

you can drop reserve days if the “pool” is green. But that means you may get to drop a day here or there. You certainly wont be dropping a whole month of reserve days.

as far as picking up, you put in to pick up open trips or assignments (short call/ FSB) and those are awarded at 11am the day prior, and in seniority order.

lots of people on reserve try to “aggressive pickup” trips so that they have some semblance of predictability and don’t have to sit around a crashpad.

haven’t been on reserve for awhile, never was then but guess it’s changed. still can’t pick up open time if you drop a reserve day

The way he phrased it isn’t probably what it means to us. I think he was asking if you can APU trips while on reserve, rather than picking up trips on days off.

Anyone know for sure if United is giving classes to new hires without the covid vaccine? I'm hearing mixed opinions and can't find a solid answer.
