Usually, the only WB slots for DCA that show up in a class drop would be DCA 756… Usually WB slots will always be some form of SFO, EWR. If you are really wanting DCA or ORD and your best shot will be the 737/A320 and then bid up into the base/equipment/seat you desire on the future vacancy bids.. You second best shot will be the 756 and same deal. It will take a little bit longer but you should be able to get to EWR on the 756 equipment fairly quickly and over time you’ll get to DCA/ORD. Forget about it in the 777, you will be commuting to SFO for awhile, no ORD base. 787, similar thing, but you might get to EWR quicker vs the 777. But DCA or ORD on the 787 will likely take at least a year best scenario… DCA on the 777, longer…

possible, but far more likely you take a 737/320 to DCA out of training then bid WB with no seat lock and same pay that first year. This is the way.

Why does SFO 787 go so much more senior than SFO 777 FO?

There are FOs who have been on reserve for years on that thing when they could be holding nice lines on the 777. What am i missing here?

There are FOs holding decent lines SFO 777 who would still be solidly on reserve if they were SFO 737. It’s a weird world right now.

Pardon to steal the thread, but how soon in the recruitment/onboarding process do you learn which fleet you get assigned to?
Thanks

If I’m recalling what i heard someone else say which seemed plausible, the trips are (almost) all double-augmented 25 hour three days.

If given the choice between EWR and IAH in class for someone living in ORD, which base is easier to commute to, find crashpads, etc? TIA!

I would say it doesn’t really matter, since you’ll probably get to ORD NB before you even leave training. Lots of frequency to both, moreso to the NYC market, but less reliable. Plenty of crashpads around at both as well. Right now, you’re probably more likely to see IAH 737 FO right now simply due to the huge amount of vacancies in the last bid.
