They can't cut to profitability but they can reduce the bleeding a bit. There's nothing that can be done right now to increase revenue. Well, I suppose the company can do like other companies and start manufacturing face masks to make a few pennies?
We have a revenue problem. Right now our product is not wanted. We need to find a product that is and compete. Quitting until the problem might be solved for us (vaccine) is a terrible idea. It might not get solved. We need to learn how to survive in the current environment. If that means isolating each passenger, testing before flight, flying cargo only we need to figure it out. The first people who need to be furloughed now is upper MGT. why do we need them and their bloated salaries if the plan is to do nothing?

There isn't any product that involves flying airplanes that will raise enough revenue to replace what has evaporated.
Can you sew masks? Those are in demand.

Edit: One thing we can do is cancel all contracts for outsourced flying and take it all back in house.

The legacies problem is the virus. So we need a treatment or vaccine either one that puts this virus on its heals. We also need it so that we can start to regain access to other countries. That is what is killing us all right now. It will get solved somehow no pandemic has ever raged on forever or we wouldn’t be here. Rapid testing would be great excerpt we currently are at the upper bounds of our testing capability again for trying to find out who is sick.

Just a quick reminder to those (myself included) facing furlough, your furlough pay is based on completed years of service/2 * current pay rate * MPG. Any cut to pay rates or MPG will affect what UAL will pay you when you’re forced to the street. As many have said, the company is going to furlough to what they need. I’m suspect of any furlough mitigation strategy proffered by the company based on past actions.

With load factors of 20%, six seats are irrelevant. Probably a ten-minute job for mx and some paperwork.

7-G-1-a A furloughed Pilot i) who was involuntarily displaced from a higher-paying Category than the one from which he was furloughed, and ii) whose “date of displacement” (as defined in Section 8-E-3) from that higher-paying Category is within twelve (12) Bid Periods of his furlough date, and iii) who actually received pay in that higher-paying Category, shall receive furlough pay equivalent to the minimum monthly reserve flight pay guarantee based on the last hourly rate he actually received for that higher-paying Category. If more than one (1) involuntary displacement satisfies this provision, the highest rate applicable shall be used. This provision shall not apply if the Pilot would receive a lesser rate than provided for under Section 7-G-1 if the last hourly rate actually received for the higher paying Category was at a lower longevity step than the Category from which he was furloughed (e.g., 2 year 756 First Officer rate vs. 3 year 737 First Officer rate).

That is never an either/or proposition.

they want to leave so let them go. Saving $200000 a year is more than the junior pilots make.
Not sure how this slipped under the radar.

SCREW YOU. We have a contract. Honor it. Every effin day. Seniority has it's privileges, as it always has and has it always should. And I am NOT senior! The company could offer a more attractive early out, but they chose not to. And when you are a WB Captain and sitting on your rear due to no fault of your own, I will fight for your paycheck as well.

Can't believe this hasn't been ridiculed by now.

I think his point was offer more EO to effectively pay those WB CA to stay home permanently instead of guarantee with zero intl flying
