unless you have some information that the majority of us don't, How do you feel so comfortable asserting an ironclad position? I’m honestly curious… what gives you the confidence that you have more insight and the rest of us?

this kind of hubris is so toxic in the cockpit… I would think we are one group of professionals that would not of gotten caught up in this modern day indulgence of black-and-white thinking…

1. if the top third get nothing other than a 10% pay reduction, (and many of them keep a higher paying seat, thus negating the pay reduction they would’ve received if the furloughs and displacement went through)… I am OK asking that of them

2. If the middle third get to keep their seats and not play the giant game of musical chairs… They keep a lot of money in their pockets as well… The ones who get screwed in this group are the ones who chose to say senior in their BES and now get a 20% pay cut to help save junior pilots.

3. The bottom 2850 of this group I suppose are lucky to have jobs? The next 1500 are the ones who will take the largest hit financially from this whole deal (if displacements go through for this group and they receive a large pay cut).

if you take all The potential furloughees, and pilots in the top and middle third who are now not getting displaced, you should have well over 50% to pass this TA. I do not feel bad for the senior guy/gal take me a 10% pay hit… I feel bad for the people who were living well within their means on a lesser BES in the middle third, and the same group in (the top of) the bottom third. Those of us like me who got an early upgrade or some good WB QOL enjoyed good luck for a few years, but the party is over for now.

One man’s take on how this could play out

As others have stated, a lot of us will receive a fairly significant amount of money to just leave. In my case 5.5 months and some vacation payout. This gives me 6 months to figure out what I am gonna do, and I feel like this is plenty of lead time. The truth is I started preparing in March.

Second, I feel like both ALPA and the company are putting the pilots in a tiered class system. Call it the lower class (bottom 1/3), the middle class (middle 1/3), and the upper class (top 1/3). I dont know about the rest of you, but I DO NOT want to be part of a tiered class system designed by the both the union and the company.

Finally, I am 45 years old, and in my opinion, this is gonna be a long event. Recover could be as short as 2 years to as long as 10 years (opinion only as no one really knows). At my age, if it last 10 years, I have to consider alternative careers, because coming back at 55 to salvage an aviation career seems to be a poor decision on my part. I will do what is best for me, and my family FIRST. The rest is a very distant secondary thought including protecting others jobs. Sorry as I am sure that will be a hard truth for some. Sorry for the length.
how are you calculating 5.5 months?

Jesus Christ, guys... Keep up with the divisive mantra while basing a position based entirely off rumors.

its still technically a job. Doesn’t mean it pays like it used too. 50% pay and Benifits/health insurance is better than 0% pay and no benefits.

Just remember: It’s not what’s fair, it’s what’s negotiated. And that cuts both ways.

I have the furlough letter in hand, and yes a job at 50% pay is better than 0% pay. You made simple math! Who is going to sit around on their as# and get zero pay? I can’t imagine any motivated professionals doing that. We have skills and are valuable in the workplace.

This is not an automatic yes vote cause I’m getting furloughed. Think about it like a business person now, not a pilot that needs a job. We are playing against the most ruthless, smart, greedy people on the planet and that’s Wall Street. This is not a Scott Kirby deal yes he’s the puppet out in front but his position at the table is Wall Street’s position at the table. Be careful to those in the bottom 1/3! Let’s see what the offer is and be pragmatic and make the best decision. Not the decision just for you and yours but make the best decision for your career.
