There's too much talk of punishing the company for certain behaviors. Oh, THEY can do X but they're PENALIZED with Y. This is the wrong mindset. Instead say WE can do X and we're REWARDED with Y. The TA does the former where our current contract does the latter.
Also, be careful of pay that is both a reward and a penalty. This is merely spin. For example: The company is penalized for giving a reserve an early assignment and a reserve is rewarded for picking up an early assignment. Where is the balance of power here? Clearly it is with the company who can force the assignment. The reserve may only choose which assignment they receive or gamble that they're not assigned. They cannot decline early assignments (those before 1000). If we kept with the current paradigm then the early reserve assignment would be 100% opt-in with a company decided premium. Obviously morning PPU is even more costly so allowing early reserve pickup is concessionary. But at least such a concession wouldn't invert control, from pilot to company.
That last point proves it is possible to yield to the company yet retain control of our schedules and cost variability. Since negotiations are give/take I'd expect any gives to look like that i.e. pilots are rewarded for the optional not compensated for the mandatory.
It won't be 20 years if we give in to this. It will be forever. You'll come to work when they say and stay home when they say. You'll make what they say. From this position you'll have zero leverage on the next contract. The PPU and other provisions on reserve and scope and reassignments and training have recently become very expensive for the company. This TA is them shrewdly buying that control for a song. Don't sell it to them for anything.

Council 5 Resolution.
No Confidence vote and removal of the UAL Negotiating Committee Leadership.
Whereas, The UALMEC Negotiating Committee has been in section 6 negotiations with the company for more than 4 years.
Whereas, The recent TA that Negotiating Committee presented doesn’t conform to the direction and expectations of the membership.
Whereas, The Negotiating Committee has recently argued for the benefit of the company’s position to assuage the pilots to vote in favor of the TA while ignoring and misrepresenting the concessionary aspects of the TA during the town hall virtual meetings.
Whereas, The Negotiating Committee has admonished, criticized and condemned ALPA members in good standing for exploiting the “loop holes” in the current agreement, while promoting the needs of the company above that of the United Pilots.
Whereas, The Negotiating Committee has recently shown a propensity to justify and promote the company’s bargaining position at the town hall meetings while downplaying and withholding the adverse aspects of the TA and insidiously attaching LOA’S that continue to erode the quality of life issues of the United Pilots at a later date.
Whereas, The polling data from the pilots is more than 6 years old and the Negotiating Committee failed to address the “true concerns” of the United Pilots and appears “out of touch” with the realities of the line pilot.
Therefore be it resolved, A vote of “NO CONFIDENCE” is justified and thereby submitted for the direction of the MEC to use all means necessary to remove those current Negotiating Committee members that have been representing the Pilots of United Airlines at the bargaining table.
Be it further resolved, That a MORATORIUM of ALL negotiations, including and not limited to AIP, TA, LOA and MOU’S until such time that new pilot data polling is compiled, processed and determined for the new bargaining direction that reflects the current needs and demands of the United Airlines Pilots.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michael J Boccher

In a short week or two this turd of a TA has revealed the biggest fiasco in years
I have a feeling AA management worried we would have been daft enough to ratify, knowing
their guys would never accept similar. Putting them at a comparative disadvantage.
