In this case it seems your negotiating committee didn’t take direction from your pilot group, hence the problem. How are they supposed to know what you want if they don’t poll you? But the negotiating committee should be very aware of what the pilot group wants even if it’s technically the MEC who polls the pilots and directs the MEC.

Yes, that’s because the negotiating committee doesn’t take direction directly from the pilot group.

So few pilots have actually attended a union meeting that it’s not surprising that nobody understands how union policy and procedure work. To your point, the NC is completely out of touch because the MEC failed.

The current MEC had the opportunity to stop this thing cold, yet they didn’t. Line pilots should have never seen the TA.

Since when has that mattered? They've foisted a lot of junk on the pilots over the years.

Two thoughts relevant to this thread from an old timer.

First, I was a Todd supporter as I had beers with him on numerous occasions and assumed the Grievance Chair Todd was the man who became MC Insler, but it turns out I was immensely mistaken and he changed for the worse. Second, the history of WM's past performance indicates she does not have strong convictions to drive her decisions, but rather blows with the wind of those around her. She may appear to be on our side because of the prevailing mood in Council 12, but history shows once she leaves the surroundings of a strong unionist group she waffles. In my opinion she should not be a leader. Unfortunately she is very good at personal politics or so I assume since I only met her once in person.

Default Attn all ALPA MEC ChairS

If you allow Insler or Hamilton to get anywhere near ALPA National you will come to regret it. These guys are nothing but FPL or FTFPL seekers and are not at all about being unionists any longer. If you knew MH as an EVP he has so corrupted himself within UALPA since then. He is not a guy you want around ALPA National. And as for Insler, no man in my career have I seen so blatantly think only he can do it than this guy. Listens to no one. Will tell you how it’s gonna be. And you are either with him or you’re history. Puts moles on the forums and gets his guards moderating forums to squelch any dissection against him. He is about 1 voice in the union. HIS!! All others are not worthy.

You do realize that MEC Chairs don't vote for National officers, right?

Jesus F’in Christ this right here! I wasn’t around then but heard more than enough from those that were about how things went with her. Hell, now I see pilots on the Facebook group saying they really liked the message in Barton’s latest email trying to capitalize on the chaos here.

Its going to get ugly real fast here and a lot of the players that are going to be the most vocal are not in it because they care about us.

I honestly thought the MC whom make up the EB of Directors from each ALPA carrier. Is that not correct? I know it requires 2/3 majority etc Which explains the rounds so to speak. I’ve never championed a candidate at the National level so I may have my brain wrapped on the wrong people. Who does vote then? And thanks for responding. Only way to learn. Reading 72 pages of all the eligibility and format pages of the association for the average line pilot can get confusing. Us Arkansans aren’t the sharpest I’ll admit. 😄

Your elected reps (status reps, not S/Ts) make up the Board of Directors. The BOD is who elects the National Officers. MEC chairs have no vote, or standing, as they're not part of the BOD.

It's the first person who gets a majority of the votes cast. If you have more than 2 candidates, it takes multiple rounds, because the lowest vote getter drops off.
