Bingo. This perspective is exactly why the opposite narrative needs to be said repeatedly. And if that’s their angle, it is indeed very nefarious. So if the company had not graciously granted you this early 5%, and you had signed a deal before they were required to give you the 5%, then you would just have whatever you agreed to in the new TA, inflation+ hopefully. Let’s call whatever amount this is “X” since everyone has a different number. Then they would have to give you the 5% from the LOA when the agreed terms were met. So X + 5%. But now since they generously gave you this 5% early as a down payment on inflation, then your contract can be X - 5%, since they already gave you a down payment on the inflation…right?

A few issues. One, ALPA didn’t accept anything. This 5% was part of an LOA provision the company chose to exercise early. Their prerogative. Second, any leverage, real or perceived, is part of section 6, and has nothing to do with this loa. Thirdly, United is not struggling to attract pilots. This all has to do with United’s plan for United Next. You can’t sit over here claiming rainbows and kitty cats to the world while your pilots have pitchforks and gas cans. They need a happy workforce to go out and execute their plan for world domination.

Now they are blasting management for doing the same thing with LOA pay early, and patting themselves on the back for getting back to square 1.
The irony that most of what they’re lambasting as an affront to our collective value is exactly what they designed & tried to sell us just months ago is not lost on me & I’m sure is not lost on the company, either. Having said that, the fact that they are doing & saying the right things now (ironic as it may be) is an illustration of how representation works. When we demand accountability we get amplified voices & a unified front. When we don’t, we get TUMI.

You are clearly don’t know what’s going on here.

You make some good points, but those pilots should be happy the pay bar has been raised. We should be hoping other airlines far surpass our current rates.

This take on management isn’t correct. Not vilifying management doesn’t change how much the market will allow us to pry from their hands, but it makes going to work more enjoyable. YMMV
They gave us this raise to save Christmas.

1) MD of Crew Resources put out a letter basically saying, “Surprise! We are putting more of you on reserve and raising the LPA!” Another 90 hour line, another Christmas on the road.

2) Council recalls happened shortly thereafter. Natives are getting restless.

It’s purely a play to placate us. They didn’t give us the raise because they truly want to value us. Heck, they could give us a 15% raise now while they hammer out the rest of the contract, if they wanted to.

No, they would need an LOA

Do you think the union or pilot group would turn that down…?
