Not sure from which side of the country you are commuting, but that shouldn't last forever. If you don't get out of Breeze, you will regret it fast. Free advice, you get what you pay for!

)* : Yes, upgrade could be a while at SWA, but you will earn a very good amount of money in the right seat. Schedules are good, TAFB@guarantee is probably lowest for any NB pilot. Flexibility and commutability are good/great. Only DEC position for Breeze is E190/MSY on the charter fleet. Think 11 days off, in 1 or 2 day blocks.....
they’re no longer hiring DEC’s and 190’s going away, just 220’s. It’s not 11 days off, and not only charter

stay at Southwest instead don’t come to breeze, it’s a decrease in QOL and long term pay

Very junior (just short of a year) UAL guy here. I was in one of SWA's last classes before they shut down hiring. I totally get the pain of a transcon commute -- nearly all of my SWA classmates are commuting to RSV in BWI and MCO. But as others have said, for the love of God do not leave SWA unless you're going to another major (and right now, the three legacies are all hiring).

Plus, upgrade at UAL is vastly longer than it was a few months ago. The latest vacancy bid is likely going to see the most junior upgrade at around 60 pct system seniority. That's about the same upgrade time as at SWA. Literally hundreds if not thousands of UA upgrades have happened in the past year. I do think UA upgrades will get a bit more junior than the latest bid shows, but if you think you're missing a quick upgrade at UA -- that ship sailed a long time ago for a lot of us...

Hang in there. SWA FO is not a bad place to hang your hat for a bit...

For me it’s not about upgrading to upgrade, it’s about getting TPIC for United to even look at my application. Which wont happen at SWA for a LONG time and could happen quicker somewhere outside SWA. But you all have been so helpful. SWA has been good to me..BWI commute rough.

thanks everyone for the dose of sanity!

TPIC is todays favorite flavor. Assuming Boeing and Airbus deliver airplanes even at 3/4 pace but consistently the TPIC we go away and then being at southwest will give you leg up. I would not leave southwest for breeze. DN has been successful at Morris, WestJet, JetBlue, and Azul. That an impressive resume in the airline world. I don’t know if breeze will make it or not, but southwest will be around for a long time and provide for your family and if United offers you a job in future then you have a choice to make. Right now you are seeing 2 ULCCs with uncertain futures. Both will come into focus second half of 2025 and that will either increase high time captains flooding the market or things will dry up. Good luck and be patient. A lot will change in 12 months

60% system seniority is about 4 years or so at United. Not close to swa upgrade times. But definitively increasing from the past few years as vacancies have driednup

Ah, great point, thank you for clearing that up. I wish there was a chart that approximately equated system seniority to years of service...

It's highly non-linear. I guarantee you 2025 hires are not going to be 60% seniority in 2029.

If you assume an average 25-30 year career, 3-4% per year is a sustainable long-term average. 10% per year isn't normal.

All could be resolved by adding DOH on the vacancy snapshot

I would just focus on things you can control like making sure you go to every job fair, or maybe do a bunch of volunteering rather than bounce around and look for TPIC. United has hired THOUSANDS of people recently without TPIC, many of which are CAs here now. I get as it gets more competitive TPIC will "help" but I don't think it will be as important as it used to be. I dunno, just my opinion.
