United 737 MAX10 Status

In the days of Cal the numbers actually made sense. If you take the last 3 digits of the tail number and put a 0 there it was either a DC 10 ...777 or a 764
the number 1 was for the 757-200. 8 for the 757-300 7 for the 737-700 2 for the 737-800 3 for the 737-300 and so on. So there was a method behind the madness.
now I'm not so sure?

Maybe still coming for RyanAir. When UAL tells BA “yeah, just go ahead and stop work on those” that’s pretty clear cut they have a plan that does not include the -10 in the future fleet plans.
From one of the articles:
”Kirby emphasizes that the issues with Boeing extend beyond a short-term inconvenience, characterizing them as a two-decade-long concern rather than a mere 12-month problem.”
He said the quiet part out loud, and you know he’s not the only CEO thinking it. Start buying BA put options 😉.

Once the aircraft is certified, then start building -10s again. United also will get some kickback from Boeing for those swaps I am sure…. But the -10 is still happening….

I think you misunderstood what he said…. Kirby basically told Boeing to using near-term production slots building -10s and use them on -9s for the time being.

as it should. The -10 is incredibly efficient and will open United up to new routes at increased profitability. All pilots bashing Boeing and hoping the 737 program ends aren’t looking at their own best interests. I pray Boeing get its issues sorted out quickly, our furlough letters could depend on it.
Though you’re right, a success for Boeing is a success for the airline

Also the pause in hiring announcement was before the decision to convert the MAX-10 to MAX-9s and keep deliveries coming. So who knows what will actually happen.
I bet we'd get all of Airbus's close in deferrals if it included an Airbus WB order with actual near-term delivery dates.

Its also possible that the 2 month hiring pause (May June) is because the company is unsure whether those pilots hired should be trained in the 737 or Airbus. The MAX 10 deliveries for 2024 and 2025 are about the same number of A321s that Spirit and JB have deferred, so its possible that this gives United time to grab those deferrals and figure out which plane mix is coming in the next 2 years.

The right move in opinion is to use near term slots to keep being certified aircraft onto property and get some kickback on delays…..
