As to your other diagnosis about the production line. The civilian world also doesn’t really produce that much. While no stats exist as far as ATP, over 80% of commercial certifications granted by the FAA go to Foreign Nationals.
It’s still a huge number relative to the sub-1k ex-military pilots that are competing for aviation jobs across the spectrum of such jobs annually.

I'm sure the opposite exists, too, but I'd be hard-pressed to believe they're limited to IAH. But now you've got me curious who I should be on the lookout for.
They absolutely are not limited to IAH. Had one in ORD 756 that promptly went on my no fly list after a VERY LONG 2 day. Just overall very rude to everyone.

I cannot fathom deciding where I am going to live based off a stereotype for a co worker I have a 90% chance of never seeing again. Live where you want to live, don't overthink it.

That USED to be LW…..no longer on the 320.

I’ve had a couple of FO’s complain about a 737 LCP. Evidently he had corrected them for showing up to the plane for the first leg of a pairing 15 minutes late, using PED’s during flight, blowing off the debrief, sticking checklist in the windows to block the sun, and stuff like that. I told them that I was shocked that a LCP was by the book and expected them to be as well. I’m sure that got me put on the list too.😂

My base is the opposite, known for a great group of pilots, we kind of ‘do our own thing’.

My experience in the military is rather aligned with this, the further away you get from the flag, the better the climate and culture is.

My question is if United is a big enough company that this doesn’t exist or if there are nuances about different bases. If so, what’s the widely accepted best climate/culture base?

Thank you for the insight!

I find the cultural differences vary in terms of fleet and age rather than in bases but of course IAH has the biggest differences. I’ve flown with younger Guys who transitioned over to narrow body from wide. They couldn’t stand the wide body captains . Most younger folks couldn’t stand flying with boomers. And in my personal experience (and I mean very personal) I’m on red alert flying with older unmarried guys . They haven’t learned nitpicking about small ******* is annoying and ruins the cohesiveness in the flight deck. strictly bias from me I guess . Otherwise I personally have enjoyed flying with most older gentleman. Politics vary, but IAH again takes the cake for the most politically charged .

And believe it or not , they wear them with baggy pleated front uniform pants .
Belt looped cell phone holder is standard issue with the ex con boys in Iah and united sop is just a recommendation. “ That’s a United thing , we didn’t do it that way at continental “ lol .
Different breed indeed .
Haters gonna hate I guess…I found the vast majority of captains I flew with for a decade in a IAH very professional, easy to fly with and learned a lot. The few oddballs were scabs, and some of the worst captains were from other bases on broken pairings. The Texas stereotypes were the exception than the rule. I’ll take take the guy with cowboy boots any day over the guy with legacy wings.
