I don't know where this fantasy CAL has that United pilots think they were going to get "saved" comes from. In reality, it is more like we merged with a much smaller domestic airline and need to make the best of it, i.e. not much we could do to stop it.

No kidding..

I am thinking that once set your emotions aside and actually read the financials CAL was no sweetheart that doesn't have the capability to save anything. In fact when your really get down the brass tacks what exactly is CAl bringing to the table that UAL didn't already have and much more of?

A better management team that actually is interested in building and running a solid airline? Apparently not.

A better route structure either domestic or international? Nope

An almost irrelevant international route structure? Oh yeah

Please remind me exactly what it is that CAL is bringing to the table that is so earth shattering?

Save us? We had already gone through the pain of Tilton "right sizing" the operation so that the domestic product is strictly limited to feed the international markets. Unfortunately, it seems that Smilton was listening. It's not going to "destroy" CAL OR UAL, but it's going to blow going through another round of "right sizing" when we had already sucked on that lemon for the past decade.

I take this to mean if he can do the entire domestic ops with outsourced planes, he will. He has no interest in having or running a domestic airline as a business or a profit. For him, it's over. International only, park every mainline non-international plane possible, outsource as much as possible.

Sounds like the way of Pan-Am. I bet in 10 years or less we'll be buried.

Being a EWR73FO you should know that CAL management does not now, nor has since 1983, cared anything about a "product." All the "savings" will result in a massive shift of wealth to a few people while destoying the lives of several thousand employees across the company. Smisek will get CEO of the Year and will be the first American head of the Star Alliance, graduating from mere American wealth to European royalty.

• Smisek said he expects United Continental, a merger last year of United Airlines and Continental Airlines, to shrink in the U.S. "We'll have the domestic [operations] sized solely to feed the international traffic."

-- The Executive shall receive a minimum annual base salary equal to $975,000.
-- The Executive's bonus shall be 150% of base salary; may range between 75% and 200% of base salary.
-- The Executive [shall be granted] a special integration award with a target value of $4,000,000.
-- The Executive [shall be granted] a long-term incentive award with a grant value of not less than $8,400,000.

From my UAL pilot friends that tell me so and that our management will save UAL from bad management. They are all the same! My friends are starting to see it too.

Yep let's get back into this cr@p again. Look I sure as sh!t didn't want this merger and you prob didn't either, but we're stuck with it and the Harvard Law Scumbag captaining the ship until he cashes out. Can we stop with the pecker measuring junk until we get the contract.

After that and the accompanying seniority hatred you all can engage in the whole who ruined who's career sh!t show. Hotheads can go ahead and burn this place down like Us Air for all I care, but we've worked hard enough of the last few years that we deserve our payday w/retro. Get the freaking contract and those that need to can wow each other with their pecker size arguments.
