I am not sure why you think the pre merger bids were bizarre. The company had a bunch of airplanes coming, only one pilot group that could fly them, and had to staff the planes. They could have staffed the planes with more pilots as is shown by all the SRM trips that were offered during that time.

What time has shown ( which was obvious to any reasonable observer at the time) is that the bids were given out in the wrong place. Additionally, it was done at such a high level that it unfortunately gave rise to the conspiracy theories that have filled this and other forums.
The SRM levels we see are due to gross manpower errors, one of which is the problem of having pilots in the wrong location. That results in extremely inefficient use of pilots due to inefficient trips. This is good for us in the short term because it requires extra pilots and or a huge amount of Senior Manning, but is bad for us in the long term as it is painful to correct.
We are now in the painful part!!

1.Like them or not, Jsled and Hoss have been dead on for a couple of years. Only childish games by one side, aided by a Manpower that for some reason went along with it, caused a lopsided list for 4 years.
2. Whoever made the decision to train 200 more Captains than FO's in IAH 737 should have been shown the door.
3. It is weird to see huge displacements during the "good" times. But it is what it is. I am an LUAL guy who flew on the lCAL side for the last 2.5 years. I was a beneficiary of the games played the last 4 years. I sat in a base and seat with far more seniority than I should have. I am being bumped down, and maybe out as well.
Just one more speed bump. Oh well.

2. Didn't happen. They ran IAH CA/FO up to over 650+ each seat. Difference is a lot of FOs bid out. Btw the first Manpower guy got fired after the shocking revelation that he guessed wrong that Denver bumps would follow the seat elsewhere.
3. Suspect it will work itself out just fine once Company ever figures out an end state. I have stayed at the bottom of that IAH FO list for 2 years but think with even a little bit of moving on between the legacy groups this can be a very good place to be. Turned down other opportunities because i think that. But waiting to see somebody step up and lead the combined pilot group.

1. Maybe they were right. Maybe they guessed right in their anger.

3. There is no "end state". It is continuous change. I guess that would make continuous change the "end state".

PS Passes until they're bumped again, which resets the PS passes. Gives them quite a bit of time to figure out where they actually want to settle down. No different than some of the junior DEN Guppy CAs bumping to IAH knowing they'll be on the round 3 displacement there.

Bumping 100's of pilots is one thing....putting them in class before the bumps are complete....asinine. It looks like some of us will be attending back to back schools....at Captain pay of course. On another note....did ya'll see our 44 y/o CFO is jumping ship? Smart dude.
