To be fair, the company never said 325 was a hard/fast number.
"Earlier this year we reported to you that we planned to hire about 300 new pilots in 2017. We now expect that the number could be as high as 325. Based on current trends, hiring for 2018 looks to be similar."
Doesn't take a lawyer to see those aren't exactly affirmative statements.

Keyword there is, "planned." There's also the reality of what they can actually do. I heard a rumor they will only run a bid for early 2018 with nothing for the rest of 2017 due to training backlogs and limited resources. Also, if we are losing 3-5 new hires a year that number has to be factored in somewhere, perhaps it's part of the 25 increase? Either way, it's safe to say they will continue hiring in 2018.

Maybe. But I doubt it. Landing a "Heavy" is easier than landing a J31. Do you know how many "Heavy" Captains we have here that were hired in the early 90's and flying commuters? Lots. And many with zero left seat time. And are getting by just fine it would seem.

Doubt regional guys are struggling especially since they are all high time guys and usually have some history of being involved in their previous airlines training dept. It's the same job, bigger metal. Doing it with a constant level of fatigue and during the worst times of the night really add a level or two of difficulty. Having to deal with the witches in crew logistics and some of the bonehead FQS guys kicks it up another notch as well. Then add intl, if one hasn't done it before, on top of all that and things could get rough for some. But that's applicable to guys from either background. I could see long term regional guys struggle with adapting to a new company's SOP. It's so similar to their previous job but there are enough little differences to really mess with their head which can lead to big problems. JMO...
