I still disagree. Yes PS can disappear tomorrow but it won't next year or even the next. The ALV of 75 is pretty accurate. You have months that are 72 then you have months that are 85 so I'd say calling it 75 for the year is accurate. Like I said before If you are an East coast guy it makes total sense to bounce even after 12 years...for the west coast guys Id agree with your 5 year assessment. Not trying to brag but I haven't hit 4th year pay yet and I'm going to make over 200k as a FO as a commuter...I usually average 16-18 days a month working. If you live in base you could easily surpass that.
The pension you got me. The opportunity cost is up to the individual...I'd argue it's worth exploring if you want variety of flying in your career...if you don't then probably not.

This place isn’t a Frontier or Sun Country. I know a FR guy, 10th yr CA who left for Delta but he was making 151/hr as CA and had not made much in his time at Frontier. I can see that case. But look at your factual data. How many 12 yr capped CAs left Southwest or Alaska to start over? I bet it’s zero. Maybe 1, because there’s always a fool somewhere.

Yup. The sooner he moves, the sooner they'll open another base (or merge with JB), and he can move back. Sometimes you gotta play Murphy, instead of letting him play you.

12 yr CA making 266/hr plus 15.5% retirement to start over at the big 3? No way. That doesn't make any financial sense. First year you're gonna make 80-85k at most of those places and 2nd yr about 130k-145k. Compared to giving up 270-300k/yr here, those 2 yrs you'd give up nearly 400 grand (or more). And it'll continue to be a paycut until you upgrade again at the legacy in the base you want and then start to make up on the lost opportunity cost of what you gave up to start over. Not to mention the loss of vacation, QOL, schedules you held, to start over again. Another huge threat is a downturn and being at the bottom of a 14,000 pilot list. As previously stated if you have less than 5 yrs invested here, the decision to leave is easier. But 12 yr CA? No. You'd be hard pressed to find any 12 yr CA at Southwest, jetBlue, or Alaska leaving to start over at the bottom of the big 3.
Besides, leaving AS solely for SEA at Delta is a gamble itself too. Delta gained SEA through the NWA merger and only in the past several years opened more categories there like the 737. One major downturn in the economy, or a realignment in the international strategy, joint venturing out, consolidating to LAX or SLC, anything could happen and the SEA base could shrink or go poof. SEA isn't ATL, and history has shown itself with Delta and its bases at PDX and DFW and soon to be CVG. United was huge in SEA once too. 737s, 75/767, 777s. All gone. Good luck with a SEA gamble.

The thing about Alaska is it is a workin’ mans/womens airline. If you credit 80hrs here you block 80 hrs. A straight numerical comparison would show we lag the major airline narrow body pay by 10-15%. The only accurate comparison is a W2/ block/tafb/credit comparison. I have diligently done this with a group of airline friends at the 6 big airlines for many years. We are 30% behind the closest and 45% behind the furthest. The only benefit that some of us have is a real retirement. The vast majority just have a 401K tax deferred savings plan. Wide body FO friend has always out earned/ under blocked me by a good margin. Capt friend at Brown laps me by 45% and under blocks me by 20%....3 capt friends at LUV take me by 30% while being 1o-15% under block. No question in the comparison that matters....leaving for a major will pay dividends. And if you are a traveler and go to one of the 3 major international airlines you have travel benefits. Most vocal Alaska guys have strong ties to the airline. For me the pension is the sole tie. Hard to beat it.

And you could always be like that guy who left VX for AS and heard about the merger in ground school. My shiny blue clip-on is the last tie I’m ever go to wear! If a 12 year left today I wouldn’t be surprised if the day he got caught up is the day the merger would be announced.

This thread is pathetic. What a bunch of cry babies. Oh I have it so bad, poor me. Just got my final pay stub for the year. I live in base made $378,000 this year including my $ 8,250 in 401k... I guess that is the maximum the company can give us option A guys. Every company has some angles to take advantage of, every company has some things people want to change, even Delta. I averaged 14.6 days a month off and yes I love living and being based in Seattle. I have 23 years left and I could honestly retire tomorrow, thanks in no small part to this 💩 crappie company you all call a super west coast regional, “Alaska Airlines”. Move on or stay, I don’t care but I bet either way things will shake out just fine. Merry Christmas and grow up! All you Delta pukes you are awesome. When I retire I will get 108% of my highest five years if I go to 65... I know you guys will all get that too.
