Some would argue that being compensated hundreds of millions of dollars is an entitlement for being at the top of the food chain. It's not an argument that wealth needs to be evenly distributed, but rather what is fair? Greed is a great motivator, but at some point the financial gains of a few yield little benefit to society.
Considering every pilot at Allegiant is roughly making $100k+, it's not a really valid argument unless you're advocating for the rest of the staff. Comparing our situation to Delta will probably always seem depressing. Then again, even the most senior Delta pilot probably has 2-3X the time away from base as a junior Allegiant pilot... so lets not feel too sorry for ourselves.

Let's also not fall into the trap of including management's decision to use day trips as part of our compensation either. We need to get over this attitude that we will work for less just to be home every night. A bunch of guys in Mesa are about to get a lesson on that this summer.

Yes but they chose Mesa and all that entails.

It’s no secret Mesa shrinks every summer. It’s no secret you could be more senior almost anywhere else.

These are all good people I’m referring to. I’m sure they fully understand the ups and downs of their decisions. Seems juvenile to be upset about things you yourself control.

Now if you want to discuss bases closing then you would have a point.

But you're missing the point. Everyone around here lectures people for not moving to base or bidding bases where they don't live. Says its their own fault for commuting. Or maybe they live in the valley and came to work here hoping to get IWA eventually. Commute to LAS OAK or LAX for years waiting for that spot to open. Then they get it and sure they're junior but finally no more commuting and crashpads. Then they get TDYd out. To SAV or MYR that is not commutable to anywhere. Sure you can say they bid a senior base and get what they deserve and its easy for you to say that when you're not in their position. Pre contract TDY was out of control. You were here. That was a big part of the fight. Then we had a honeymoon and the company built up VBD and TDY went down. Then they decided it was too expensive and we are back to up yours take a walk and TDY a few months every year. My point is if were going to accept this then we need to stop selling this place as a airline you sleep in your own bed every night and we need to stop taking less in compensation and quality of life for it. It will always be a seasonal airline. I will be retired long before the next contract is inked but I really hope more of you guys read past section 3 next time and get some good language for all the issues going on here. Or keep whistling past the graveyard because you're too senior to worry about it. I could do that but I don't. When you've started over a bunch of times you know what the junior folks are going through. I hope your career turns out better than mine did.

I appreciate you looking out for the junior guys. But don't assume others don't feel the same because they don't simmer with outrage.

I spent years boiling over here. It did me no good. Rest assured many saw that years before it sunk into my thick skull.

The path to improvement of Allegiant is in voting for higher dues to fight the company. That was done by a majority here. Improvement lies in volunteering to do union duties. It's a thankless job but I'm very glad many do it.

The last contract had many holes in it. I agree. Have you asked anyone who was on the negotiating committee what was said repeatedly when we wanted industry standard? "You don't have a contract." Well we do now and the next round looks promising. We have excess money and a CBA. Things like the issues you mention will get worked out.

Town hall this week the said no hiring this year maybe in early 2020. Also no new bases this year maybe 1 or 2 in 2020. I'm sure our junior captains and FOs will enjoy having another year of stagnation. Delta, United, American, Southwest, JetBlue, Spirit, Frontier are all hiring. We are missing out on a a huge amount of great pilots by sitting out this hiring boom. By the time we hire all thats left will be the bottom of the barrel that got passed on by everyone else. Add to that they just put a flight attendant in charge of flight operations. It's like they are intentionally trying to tank the airline they keep claiming is the primary venture. Pay attention to what they do not what they say. It's all smoke and mirrors to keep the investors and financiers engaged. Once the hotels get critical mass they are going to drop the airline like a hot potato. Lot of pilots going to be out of work and the hiring boom will be over 5 years from now when the next downturn is here. You all can call me doom and gloom. I say learn from my experience. If you're qualified to get a real job at a real airline now is the time don't let comfort in your seat and fear of a pay cut screw you for the rest of your career when your airline crumbles around you. You don't want to be the guy standing when the music stops. I've been there several times and it sucks.

On the flip side of the coin, 100-105 airbuses projected by the end of next year. This year started with 76 so this equates to 32%-38% fleet growth in 2 years.

Has anyone really contemplated how MG will cash out of his 20% when he’s done playing with his empire? I guarantee you he is not just gonna log onto Fidelity and hit the “sell” button. Expect a “transaction” that benefits the shareholder. Merge, acquire, sell...... take your pick.
