All this allows is that if someone would rather be furloughed than take a zero hour line it allows them to do that while allowing a junior guy who is willing to accept the 0 hour line to do that. If they didn’t, then if a senior guy would rather be furloughed, it wouldn’t allow the junior guy to take the 0 hour line instead. The junior guys are not going to get anything that wasn’t offered to the more senior pilots first.

Think about the individual that received a WARN letter and is 2400 from the list. Prior to the LOA they probably weren’t at risk of being furloughed, now they have to bid ZTL in order to stay on benefits. They essentially furloughed themself, gave up furlough pay (in May of 2021) and possibly unemployment. And to think, we pay dues to the organization that passed this 20-0 😂

Someone help me out here - as I read it, anyone that's furloughed with a ZTL guy junior to them would have had to *choose* to be furloughed, correct? If that's the case, I don't see the problem. Maybe I'm missing something.

As far as I understand, pilot number 2400 can bid both leaves with a condition (option available during bid).
The pilot only accepts the leave if furlough is the other option. If the pilot is above the furlough cut, the bid will be disregarded.
More explanation should be available once APA publish some Q&A.

thats not how it works, that person can bid to only accept a ZTL in the event they were going to be furloughed anyway. If they don’t get furloughed then they won’t get the ZTL. You can place your bid on a ZTL contingent on being furloughed.

Nope, you got it right. A lot of mouth breathing on this one right now on the web boards, guys are on edge so I can’t blame them. You got something extra that wasn’t in the contract. If you don’t like it you lose exactly nothing.

Its a bid. You say you would rather take a zero time line, or you say you would rather get furloughed.

What you’re saying is akin to bidding for reserve while you’re senior enough to hold a line. Then complaining that someone junior to you got a line while you got shafted with reserve. It gets kind of weird that it stretches system wide and not just in base, but that’s just the nature of dealing with something that impacts the whole list.

so let's say 2,000 of the most jr pilots take the zero lines in lieu of being furloughed, and the next 500 don't and just instead check the box "I will take the zero line only if it's my only option instead of being furloughed."(or all 2,500 check this box same results) Now the company says hot damn we got 2,500 guys now not getting paid when we were only going to furlough 1,300-1,500. And those 500 people who otherwise would have been fine are now sitting at home getting little to no pay. It basically gives the company an easy out to put all 2500 WARN notice pilots on a semi-state furlough status and get to chalk it up as "voluntary". I mean you need to look at this agreement and think worse case scenario not best case....why not make an agreement that has the zero line options but if and when they don't get enough they furlough from the bottom? What is the number of furloughs the company is thinking of furloughing? 1,000...1,500...2,500??? What's to keep them from saying "well all 2,500 were going to be furloughed(wink wink) so we accepted all their zero line in lieu of furlough bids". Or they get all 2,500 checking the box and they still say welp sorry guys and gals still need to furlough the next 500 senior pilots. So now we have 2,500 jr pilots not furloughed not getting paid and 500 more senior pilots furloughed not getting paid....I mean were do the numbers stop? How is someone suppose to prepare for this? They are basically forcing the bottom 2,500 into zero lines. Some please explain if I am totally wrong.

The company never revealed their furlough number. Tough to play checkers against someone that never moves their back row.

Prior to the LOA they might’ve only furloughed 1600 and kept an extra 900 employed all winter for summer of ‘21. Now what choice does anyone in the 2500 have?
-hard furlough, unemployment and furlough pay
or
-ZTL, no unemployment, no furlough pay

yes, hopefully QnA proves me wrong
