Over 4000 hours in the Bus in both seats, and maybe 700 in the 737 in both seats, and I have to say that I think the mechanical checklist in the 737 is an awesome tool, even if IS ancient. It does the job.
And yes, every airplane I’ve flown for every airline has used flows to help us accomplish what needs to be done, and that includes AA. I guess USAIR just decided to take the concept to a whole new level. Triggers and flows! Triggers and flows!

Having used the mechanical checklist for more than a few hours, on both the -80, and the 73, I'm a huge fan. Although I preferred the way we used to be able to use it, not having to do everything in order.
Rumor is the takeoff config button is on indefinite hold now. Apparently the FAA wont allow MEL relief for the system.

NASA inspired it from the beginning and its contributions to safety were well noted when it first came out.
Guess you’re not a fan of electronic checklists either? It’s the same exact thing, except it’s in electronic format on a screen.

Distracts the pilots? You couldn’t be more mistaken, unless you are stating your personal opinion. If anything it prevents pilots from missing checklist items that a regular paper checklist does not.

I currently fly the Bus - have for many years. Love it. But my limited time in the 737 in both seats here at AA has shown me that there are certainly some aspects to the 737 that are excellent. The mechanical checklist is one of them. It works for that airplane. For newer design airplanes such as the Bus, yes it would be redundant, but for the 737 it's an excellent and very intuitive backstop.
Anyway, movin' on...
