...and one guy had a "friend" who applied. Applicant was OTS who had been an F-35 IP. The applicant got a TBNT letter saying he could re-apply in 6 months. Anecdotal sure, but more to the picture? Maybe. The USAF seemed to think this guy is pretty capable. The O clubs are full of folks going to DL these days.

As a 30 year AA pilot, I can honestly say their process seems murky and unfair regarding the "most qualified". Recommendations don't count for squat. Is there a method to this madness? What are they trying to achieve?

I love working here and consider myself fortunate to do so...just a little curious about who's running this train right now.

Hubble,
Sorry to offend you. AA is currently hiring and taking on new hires from flow throughs and occasional OTS.
Someone in mgmt knows the real truth as to what kind of timeline could/should be expected for the poolees but for some reason is not communicating it to people who have wives/kids/other jobs to plan around.
I just think its a real shame the way they pool people with absolutely no information to help them to make life decisions for them and their families.

I'm sure there are a few poolees who have stopped pursuing other options because they were in the AA pool and ostensibly on their way to their career airline.
There may have been in a time warp where the company decided it didn't need as many OTS due to flow throughs, but you'd think somewhere in the previous 12 months they'd expressed that concern so that people (who will be with AA eventually) don't join the company with a bitter taste in their mouth. Just a wee bit of information would do the trick.

But alas, AA mgmt always seems to pick the most callous/cold policy towards it's junior pilots and always has. Charging a fee to non-rev/commute, nearly immediately cutting off their furloughees from non-rev passes, no J/S on furlough, etc.
Sorry if it's offensive, but AA mgmt historically has been h#%ll bent on embittering it's junior pilots even during the exact moment they should be the most enthusiastic and happy with mgmt, hence waiting in a new hire pool devoid of any factual information.

I believe that they (AAG) wish to accelerate the Envoy "824" flow-thru pilots onto AA property at a rate to ensure they are all aboard by a target date sometime later next year (450 or so left ?). I don't think it was coincidence they also got all former Letter 3 (the previous flows) onboard at AA a week prior to merger snap-shot date either. I believe that once all 824's are at AA, then they will make a move regarding all wholly-owned regionals to a standard contract with uniform flow and possible consolidation and that is the point of a target date. Around that same time will be implementation of the arbitrated ISL at AA, beginning use of PBS, actual elimination of some "I" statuses to begin that consolidation and of course uniforms.

In the interim, it may be a slow go for OTS hires as another wild card that might impede that is the unknown number of LAA Letter T pilots that will return and once that is known, to what degree the New AA may "right size" it self pilot staffing wise as these and other synergies begin to take effect.

2016 could be a very slow year (or possibly a non-existent one) for OTS new-hires at AA.

All,

Interestingly enough I received this e-mail from pilot recruitment today. I was interviewed but no CJO. This should give some of the rumors on here some validity.

Good afternoon,

We realize it has been some time since we reached out to you so we thought we’d take a minute to share a bit of information with you.

Shortly after you interviewed, we were told to focus our attention on our flow-through and recalled pilots. We’re currently still in that mode and we expect the remaining four classes in 2015 to be filled with a combination of flow-throughs and recalls.

Our Crew Planning department is still determining our hiring needs for 2016. Once we get a look at those hiring projections, we should have a better idea of how our new hires will be sourced. Until then, we really don’t know.

Please don’t hesitate to send your questions to this email address and we will relay whatever information we can.

Again, we apologize for the long wait. It was never our intent to interview you and have you wait months and months for the results.

Just received the same email. Was a Jan CJO. This email most likely came from many upset pilots bombarding them with what the heck are you guys doing. Why did they bother interviewing if everything was going to be flows? Is it really too much to ask to toss a couple OTS hired in every class?

Any best guesses as to how many people are sitting in the AA pool right now waiting on a training start date? Just curious if the 100-150 OTS hires in 2016 will be all poolies?

30ish or so in the pool. But there were two other interview groups that interviewed but were told to sit and wait. So if 100% of them were hired if guess another 30ish. Just a wag

Got good news today!! I'm an Oct 1-2 interview, got the sit for this year email the other week too, but got an email with a Nov 3 class date this morning.!

I know of one other from my interview group to also get the same class. Hopefully more will hear very soon. All the best to everyone! I hope your wait is much shorter.
