Atlas Air Hiring
I saw this discussed a few pages back but wanted to clarify because I've heard what sounds like conflicting data: does the company give you a credit card to use for all purchases or can you use your personal card? I'm thinking about getting a Marriott Rewards card before I go to training so that I can get the 70k point bonus and start earning Marriott miles during training.
The company gives you a card for when they don't have direct billing set up. Most of the regular hotels and limos are direct bill but when you are on some one off trip you may end up using the company card. Plus things like the Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and extra passport pages go on it.
Like others, I've been fairly negative at times in the past. I suppose part of that is that I engage with a lot of people, do comm work and can't tear myself away from the web boards, so I hear about a lot of stuff the average pilot might not. I also wanted prospective new hires to hear all the bad stuff, so that they could make an informed decision and not be surprised when they walked through the door.
That said, I think things are looking up. Perhaps not with the management, I see several train wrecks coming that we've been warning about for a long time, but instead with the pilot group. I like the new ExCo and their attitude. Lots of work being done on our behalf in many, many quadrants. Still a long way to go, but it's encouraging, and I think people are starting to take notice. I think more people are quoting chapter and verse of the CBA to the company, and they're starting to notice, too.
And, not insignificantly, I had a great 14-day trip with zero problems. A few nit-picky things I had to call about, but Travel was (mostly) eager to help. Enjoyed a great 5-day layover at the beach in SYD, and my trip didn't change once. Refreshing.
I made $74k in my 2nd year on the 767, $88k in my 3rd. I'm senior, but to be honest, being home is a lot more important than making money, and I bid accordingly.
I will leave if the major I want calls me, but I'll miss this job for the rest of my career, warts and all. Take away the bickering with the company and by far, it's the most fun job I'll ever have.

Other common uses for company card are taxis, sometimes visas, and other authorized company expenses. It is much easier to use the company card than to pay cash and send in for a cash reimbursement. When I take a taxi, I try to get taxis that will take the card, vs. having to pay with cash. If the cost is much more than a few dollars I will not pay with my own cash. Sometimes, if we need a taxi and they won't take a card, we have the hotel add the taxi cost to our hotel room, and the hotel gives us cash to pay the taxi driver.
We do have to reconcile out company credit card expenses at the end of each month...i do NOT like doing this. Luckily, if the expense is under $75, or it's for ground transport between the airport and hotel, we no longer need to send in a receipt. The airline tickets are almost always paid for by the company, so we don't need a receipt for those, also. SOMETIMES we have to pay for airline travel with our company credit card...usually only if something goes wrong...I think I have done this once in the last 5 years.

I believe for the "average" US pilot, especially if they are age 40 or below, DAL/AA/UAL is better than Atlas.
That being said, here are some examples of "attack mode" I have experienced lately:
Scheduled for 24/7 (day off) where I didn't want to be, followed by business class airline seat and very short time in a second location before a trip. I called scheduling and asked to fly in about 12 hours to the second location, with a 24/7 in the there, instead. Scheduling said no problem and changed everything.
After a trip was postponed, the captain I was with called hotels and asked them to change my hotel to the hotel where the rest of the crew was staying...hotels made the reservation.
I called travel and asked them to fly from my Gateway on DAL on a specific flight. They booked asked if I wanted an aisle or a window seat, and booked it immediately.
Of course, things don't always go your way, and sometimes the company screws up, usually with ground transportation or hotels...they aren't perfect. For example, I was recently with a Capt and they forgot our ground transport in FRA. We got a hold of them, and they told us to just take a cab and charge it to the company credit card. We got a cab and away we went, problem solved quickly.
For many of us Atlas is a good job. With the new contract it will be better. How much? We don't know. If it is a lot better, then more guys will want to come here and will stay. If it is a little better, then less guys will want to come here and more will leave.
Good luck to you, God Bless, and namaste.

Managed to conflict bid my training, so they changed my patter to all reserve. No problem that's expected. When they finally figured out my pattern they made my flight reservations, but I found myself sitting in my living room waiting for the limo they owed me but failed to set up so they had to make all new flight arrangements. Finally made it to CVG and left on my trip. 2 days in, they cancel my training and move it the end of the month during days that weren't even available during the training bid. So now I've lost my line and whatever seniority I had to get that line. I lost the seniority it took to get the training slot I wanted and they violated the seniority of every other bidder by giving me a slot that wasn't available for them to bid on.
Finished off the trip with a broken oven out of ANC and it took at least 3 trips from catering and multiple requests to get food that we could eat without heating it up that wasn't the same exact salad.
BTW, did you get paid for making your transportation arrangements from FRA? This happens to me more that 50% of the time in FRA. Somebody got paid to make those arrangements and didn't. Just another in a long line of other departments dropping the ball and making the pilots make up for their lack of work.

Right now it's all about layovers at home...
Good places, though. I once rented a SUP in ROZ (completely flat that day), and paddled down the coast at my leisure. Some of those beaches are topless... Just sayin'!
SCL is on my list too, actually. Pichilemu/Punta De Lobos and that left point... Fine place to be a goofy foot.

Do we have overnights there (ROZ)? Looks sweet. In news for new guys and gals.... Company boys in the latest meeting pretty much said people leaving isn't a concern to them, so don't expect things to get better anytime soon here. They are fine with this place being a stop to get a type before moving to a career airline.

Cant surf ROZ as its barricaded by a seawall. ROZ and SCL you'll have to rent a car to get to the good ones, many uncrowded point breaks south of ROZ/old spainish countryside aka CA before all the fruits and nuts showed
