Which assumes you can get the open time on an "X - day" which is not always the case, especially for a junior crew member. Which is why, on the FO side we have seen most of those who are out basing are junior FOs. You have a higher guarantee and if you are gone the whole month (likely) you will make about double what you would have made working a "normal" schedule (if not a little more via hazardous pay/override).

Shame you are not open to spending time in Asia (it seems from here anyway)...some of the best places to layover are indeed in Asia.

BTW, and I don't know if Atlas is your thing or not, but if it is there is NO way to avoid Asia (or any major city in the world) if you want to work here, especially on the 747. So, may not be a good idea coming to Atlas.

Up to 33 days, (or longer, actually). It's a high payout because of the large number days away - it pays the same daily rig as any other trip (4.85 hours per full day), whereas with Open Time or Vx days, you get an override of +2/+4/+6/+6 hours per day. And you don't get any extra time off in the previous/following month.

But, it's a guarantee, provided they don't decide to send you home early, which they can do as well.

I meant that the other way... like if you tell me it's in Asia I'll be first in line to volunteer when I need a vacation.

Anyone have a good forecast on how long it would take a new 747 FO to get to HSV? Also are the trips out of HSV mainly 17 out and back? Or is it a crap shoot wherever you go?

Crap shoot. It seems that all 30 day lines are 17 day blocks and most, if not all, 60 day lines are split into 3 different trips. In other words your 34 day obligation for 2 months is divided by 3 and they may not evenly divided it could be a 4 day a 17 day and a 13 day.

In other words, you said it best, a crap shoot.

Cheers!!

You'd probably be able to hold HSV by the end of your first year, but be ready to see a ton of Africa for a few years. If you stay in ANC you'd probably be able to bid trips that start out of Chicago around that time. I've been here 3.5 years and I'm just now in the top half of FOs in HSV and HSV is junior excluding ANC.
