I think its just the opposite, where the first year your drinking the koolaid; loving the airplane and digging the layovers. Than the newness wears off, you get screwed one too many times by scheduling, fly with a douche of a capt, and find out the company is going to try to milk out the current contract as long as possible.

Than you find yourself updating your profile at AirlineApps, etc...

BTW, Fridays are a great time to call HR, especially if you can be in MIA by Sunday night.

I am not above doing this Are you serious?
Talked to a new hire starting Dec. He was called Mon about 1330. They asked him how soon he could be in MIA. He said about 2 hours. They told him show at 0800 Tue to start class. They had a no-show, so he started one day late. Lived in FL and told them he could start short notice.

Hawaiian allows whatever you want as long as the O2 seals I believe.

I just want to be in compliance with Atlas policy regarding this at the interview. My last position allowed facial hair so long as the mask seals, so I have some short facial hair.
From the Atlas FOM:

Male crewmembers

Hair must be neatly trimmed, clear of the collar, and moderate in length. Extreme styles are not acceptable. Hairstyles must not interfere with the use of the oxygen mask or other emergency equipment.

Sideburns may not extend below the lowest part of the ear.

Face must be clean shaven, except a neatly trimmed mustache may be worn. Mustaches may not extend beyond or below the lip line.

Beards or goatees are not allowed.

Use of petroleum based face products is not permitted.

Earrings may not be worn.

Reading this and the other post, in cargo, Atlas does not sound like a happy place. This 747 driver is going to pass. Thanks for the info-Yikes!

Default Imputed Income

What are the advantages of the current arrangement, rather than paying out-of-pocket to get to your domicile and writing it all off?

Conservatively, I'd anticipate an additional tax liability on 6-8K of imputed income per year. What is the impetus for the office to shop the most economical fare (as i have skin in the game to pay for it)? Essentially, they are spending the money on your behalf, so is it all still a legal deduction?

Thanks in advance for the insight!

This was essentially my exit interview with DB. Took me three years to get that p!$$ed though.

IRS rules do not allow you to write off commuting expenses. They base everything on you living in your domicile and if you really live somewhere else it is a second home. See IRS Pub. 463. Don't worry, Atlas will book the cheapest ticket they can find, they are spending their money. I've argued about riding Frontier through Denver to save 60 dollars. I pointed out their checked bag fee would eat the savings from a non stop airline I have status on. I was told the bag fee came out of a different account and didn't matter.
