Well, hypothetically looking at it from the COMPANY perspective might go like this: To get the money the pilot has to do the training. For everyone that doesn't bid the company will save money in the long run as the person who takes their place will probably not go through training again in the next two years and they will not be at the top of the pay rate (this is an entire conversation of itself as you are comparing an F/E to Capt upgrade vice a 2nd year pay scale F/E to F/O upgrade. The company is already paying someone Capt's pay so there will be no change there). Any time beyond that the company makes it's money back.

The opposite of that is how much do they get out of a guy who trains, finishes IOE and then hits 65 (or somewhere along that 63 to 65 continum). That's a lot of pain to go through to bid back to the 8 panel. A guy would probably retire. No buyout required this time and his replacement will once again probably be stuck in whatever seat for more than two years. Company wins again (saves more money).

Also, should there be a buyout in the works it will be cheaper (guessing here) to buy someone out from the back seat than from a front seat.

Obviously all the JR people are getting herded onto the panel. If the bottom 100 get F worded then the impact to the operation will be minimal. Another conversation here revolves around when. Economy rebounds then it won't happen. No rebound and the company makes the decision, they aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot and cause a massive interruption to service by not having enough F/O's in ANC.

All the above is hypothetical and my opine only and is not that of the IPA, UPS, APC or George Bush.

Dude, if the job is so terrible...quit *****ing and move on. Like I said, there is a door, all you gotta do is walk thru it. Maybe you can get another "pretty good job". ( 'Cuz UPS is rated pretty low on the "pretty good job" scale, isn't it?)

I'm certain that there are many who will gladly take your seat.

I disagree. They are doing it now because so many of the ND Favre's have failed training. Many only ever flew the 727 or DC-8 and think that the -400/MD-11 is too automated. A lot of them are too intimidated to bid if they think they will go to training. Many of these guys literally do not know how to operated Windows on a PC and fear CBTs.

Leave him alone, he is just as frustrated as many of us other junior folks.

LJS,

I don't doubt your statement, but I don't know it for fact either. Do you have a number or percentage to go with this?

Let's see, being pushed further and further down the seniority list every 3-4 months, there's a threat of furlough, slack of any stability. Yeah!! I'll say it's pretty low on my list.

You want me to walk away and be unemployed?....SURE....I'M ALL OVER IT!!! Easy to sit there and spout off when you're not in danger of losing it all, isn't it?

Is being a manager all you expected? I hope it's working out for ya.

I've followed all of us Favre's (what a guy!!) and don't see that. Of 81 who have gone to training so far, one (747 CPT award) has returned to the FE seat. Two more retired (MIA and MD11 FO awards), but I can't say if it was due to failed training or not. If you have any info, PM me and I will update my list.

Yup! Suze Ormond says if you need it within 5 years, the money should not be in the stock market.
