I agree with some things you say. Except my only experience with MANAGERS at this company is in ANC and they have done more for me then the IPA office and have corrected some of the crap that SDF staffers try to slip by. I still say staple.
Also I think the long haul flying on a new plane is very civilized and ANC catering is good enough for me. But you are right, its the pay and mostly the future pay that keeps me here. I just happen to be single no kids so its tolerable. ANC does suck though.
Good luck.

In all candor, what was your motivation or reasoning that caused you to choose UPS over SWA? The schedules and night flying certainly were known to you. Since you were offered jobs at both, clearly you had enough information to distingusih the very different lifestyles that each company offered. Since it is not about money, was it security?? Just curious because it seems peculiar that when you were hired, it was mostly to staff ANC. Am sure you must have realized the reality of that choice. Believe many would agree that SWA is about as secure as UPS job since they run a profitable company. Wish you the best in your new career. I would leave if I were that unhappy because I agree, big bucks is not worth losing my family over. Still glad I work at Brown though (FedEx, UPS, SWA were my top three)
Yes, I chose UPS for the stability and of course, the pay.
Well, that sure backfired because I have been threatened with a furlough (stability NOT) and I am on half pay for the next year and half with the threat of furlough still hanging over my head. Oh, and add my displacement to Anchorage Alaska to that list. Hello commuting on reserve at half pay (right before I get furloughed when they integrate the managers.)...
So my 2 reason for coming here are not at all what I planned... Half pay and no security. I would be doing better off pay wise and security wise at SWA and probably at my old legacy job, actually.
For me, UPS was a mistake.

That is not the experience I have had with them. Just talking to the managers you can see it in there eyes that they would stab you in the back in a second!!
I'm glad they are better in ANC because they suck everywhere I've seen them!!!

So the JAL and Air India U.S. pilot where illegally in the respective countries? I think not. These countries kicked out the non citizens or native born for there own. If we did this the embassy in some third world toilet would have a riot in front of it complete with flag burning and down with america posters.
The second part of your post... you might be right but I'm not gonna go there...

Sorry about the thread drift...

I noticed that SDF crews seem to be more negative than the ONT or ANC crews... UPSMISTAKE - I wonder if you'd be this miserable if you got based in ONT (or ANC) from day one? Maybe you'd actually like it?

I'm not picking on you, just wondering...

Reading through some of this stuff, you gotta wonder if UPS doesn't have a few regrets as well...

Maybe so but he's got a better perspective of pilot jobs outside of UPS than you obviously do. I don't believe that you've ever worked at any other airline. I do agree with you though....you should have went to SWA. Maybe you would have drunk their kool-aid like some people I know over there and you'd be Mr. Happy Go Lucky. Let me ask you though, why did you pick UPS over SWA? If you were at a legacy, I would think you had friends here and there. Didn't anyone tell you about their corporate culture vs. ours? Duh!
