ALPA Dues...???

Tony,
Still haven't seen a single WORD from the union EDUCATING the crew force on the contract, other than saying...."read it yourself"....I think it's a good deal but I sure would love some of those "intelligent" guys explaining some of the finer details to us " stupid" guys......
But then maybe they are still in Las Vegas....
so what's that about a "tree" again....
Read the back of your 2007 calendar. It may be difficult without your glasses, so I'll copy it here for your benefit:
<typing slowly so you can follow along>
"Now is the time to honor our work by learning the contract and ensuring its provisions are respected.
Know Your Contract -- Enforce Your Contract"
I realize it's a big responsibility, and, given your current state, a difficult task. However, I stand ready and willing to walk you through this troubling time. If you'd like to spend some time going over the contract after we meet at the Union Office to go over those expense reports and all, we can grab a table at Ruth's Chris and keep an eye out for those MEC members wining and dining.
Or, you can just do whatever Crew Scheduling asks you to do -- they'd never take advantage of you.
Cummon, 42GO, you can read, can't you? PM me if you can't, I won't embarrass you in public.

Wait, every copy I've seen is in plain english. Maybe not the Dick and Jane book style that you are use to Or maybe you just need to turn off that SAP function on your computer.

If you have a question the union can VERBALLY answer it for you and explain the contract to you. BUT, the union can not write, publish and distrubute a different version (interpretation) of the contract in different language than the legal brief...otherwise the laywers would be out of a job

WAIT......are you really telling ME AND all the crew members at FEDEX that the UNION can't EXPLAIN the contract to its members in plain english....
Tell me it ain't so....thats the defense of the company telling us they can't discuss accidents at fedex but telling ALL about every other accident in the world.....isn't that called "COVER YOUR ASS".

The document speaks for itself. Personally, I'm still trying to make heads or tails out of the penalty and grid section, but I'll interpret the way I think and grieve it if I feel necessary, then the precedent will be set by the arbitrator rather than some numb nuts who thinks he knows what he's talking about. That's what the Union's talking about. I know dat's right

Bull $#!+. People here need to remember the history. If you'll remember after the dictation in 98 a misguided, but well intentioned Union volunteer wrote "The plain language interpretation" of our contract. That document has caused so much extra work and heart burn in arbitrations that it is incomprehensible. (A waste of your dues dollars by the way.) Management would love for such a document to surface again to drag out arbitrations to their benefit.

Some of you guys must not be gettin enough.....
All I have done is ask a few simple questions...
"The Association and the Company worked together to produce this Question and Answer Guide. It is not intended to be a substitute or replacement for our initial collective bargaining agreement--that document remains the primary source of authority for contract rules, and everyone who is bound by that agreement has a responsibility to know and understand its contents."
Here we have the language that is used by BOTH the company and the Union when they put together the Question and Answer Guide in the Contract section of the company web site.....so it isn't like they CAN"T create areas to EDUCATE the crew force on the NEW contract as well as they did with the old contract.
AND TONY,
Your really almost out of control!

Oh, and if you think I'm almost out of control, why don't you print out my posts and give them to your wife, and have her carry them to my Assistant Chief Pilot. He should be concerned about my mental state, don't you think? Better yet, why don't you carry them in yourself? He may have a few questions for you.
