Some of the airlines publish retirement info (i.e. the number of projected retirements over the next few years)

Does that info exist for Omni?

trying to get a Magic 8 ball feel for what the upgrade time would be.

Any scoop on new aircraft.... up to date upgrade times, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Omni is ever-changing in the since that upgrade depends on the market. Since our primary client is the DOD, if they're not busy, we're not busy. Thus projected upgrade time is honestly on a month to month basis. We could sign another 2 year contract like Are Lingus, WestJet, Boliviana, Caribbean..etc and could need 10 upgrades. Or...we could lose some flying and have some downgrades. That is just the nature of the beast at Omni. As for projected upgrade at this exact time right now, it's right around 5 years.

Projected retirements, we don't have many. Next year, I think there's 3 that are turning 65 and one 1 that is leaving early. So a grand total of 4. Omni is relatively young airline as far as average age of pilots even on the captain side.

 

Also, people usually don't intend to be at Omni for a career airline. Yes, there are some who are not going to leave or don't plan on leaving but it's hard to get an exact number with people who are under retirement age that leave.

Called for interview. They don't pay travel.

 

Anyone here want to talk about life as a pilot at Omni? I've got a phone interview soon and would like some insight.

 

A year and a half ago they paid for one night in the hotel for the interview, but you are correct they don't pay for the travel to and from the interview nor do they pay travel to get you to initial training.

 

They pay for your night stay for interview at the hotel. And yes, they don't pay for your travel to the interview. Also true they don't pay for "your initial" flight to training. They do however give you $100 in your first paycheck as some reimbursement for that flight to initial training.

All of the tickets they buy are full fare revenue seat tickets. They used to buy tickets to training and people wouldn't show up. Obviously that was an expense that they didn't want to keep paying if someone changed their mind. Their philosophy is, if you get yourself to training, we will gladly take care of EVERYTHING else from there. And they do. I'm extremely happy with my decision to come to Omni. I spent 10 years at the regionals and I love flying the long haul stuff.

The dynamic operation that they run will probably be some of the best experience you will do in your career. There are no "canned" destinations at this company. And the training is tough, because it's old school, but fair and you will come out knowing that you can accomplish any kind of training out there.
