Apparently his chief pilot interpreted this 135 reg as saying a turbojet of 10 pax plus. After reading the reg myself I believe the chief pilot is mistaken in his interpretation. It's turbojet, OR a plane of 10+ pax.

Turbojet, or a plane of 10+ pax, OR a multiengine airplane in a commuter operation defined in FAR 119.

I'm tempted to bring my Unrestricted ATP and 1000+ PIC in a C402 over to Compass for an immediate upgrade. They still upgrading qualified people right out of indoc?

Kinda scary to know that there could be a guy in the left seat with 2500 total, 1000 PIC in a 402 and a guy in the right seat with 1000 hours and fresh out of flight instructing. This is a high-performance airplane, not a GA aircraft. I hope the training department doesn't cut anyone any extra slack just to get a seat filled. We all need to be extra careful with all the quick upgrades, myself included.

Seriously, it's time to get over it. It's not rocket science.....and those kind of times are far better than what the requirements used to be.

I'm told the guys on the upgrade award that were still in new-hire training were "alternates" - meaning they are on standby for filling a spot should one come available.

The guys who had confirmed spots in class have been on-line for 2-3 months. Not much time, but everyone whose going to upgrade has flown the line in the right seat - for now.

Kind of a cocky attitude to have towards the issue don't you think? Are there any regionals that have ever upgraded into a 76 passenger jet with less than 2500tt (before the new rules obviously)? Name one, maybe there has been but I doubt it. I don't think the insurance companies would allow it.

Is it rocket science? No of course not. But its nothing to take lightly either. I don't see any problem in anyone at Compass having a concern about it, and the more we discuss it the better guys can prepare for it. That being said if low time quick upgrade guys truly feel ready then go for it of course. If they aren't, hopefully the upgrade process weeds them out.

A large number of airline pilots in Europe and Asia start on the right seat of A320s and B737s with 250-300 hours through cadet programs or specialized training such as the Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL). As long as the training/upgrade programs do their job in ensuring that nobody gets in either seat without being fully qualified to do so, I don't see an issue with "low time" CA/FOs.
