Kinda. But the idea of getting you to take cash instead of days off is so they don't have to offer more critical pay.
As I said before, vacation buy-back is (generally) a short term solution to reduce required staffing. It could become long term, but that would be very bad for morale and recruitment.
The problem on the pilot side is if people accept the buy-back, it means the company does not need to upgrade as many.
About the only kind of person I'd tell to accept it is someone leaving the company. That way they get the cash and the company still needs to upgrade more people.

Plus they are betting on dumb pilots to take it. If you get paid vacation before your anniversary date, and or January 1st, its at a lower hourly rate than if you wait. Then for guys that will upgrade soon, if you keep your vacation until captain, you'll get CA pay, but if you take the carrot now you'll get FO pay.

Awesome news about raise in pay. It better be all across the board or hell will be raised.
Switching topics a bit, I stumbled upon this video produced by Skywest.
https://youtu.be/Jq0c0Z7FKQQ
They stuck a 360 degree camera in the flight deck and shot during sterile (taxi and take off with comms) and are using it as a promotional tool to attract pilots. Now, whatever happened to that FAA rule about not being able to use any PEDs in the cockpit, especially gopros, iphones and film cameras during any phase of flight? I'm assuming their POI approved it for marketing purposes?

You're probably right. With the amount of critical pay emails lately asking us to repo planes out of the SDF hangar - there's an opportunity right there for us to do the same. CFIs eat that **** up and say "They're cool, Imma apply there".
