What if the 777, DTW, MSP, and SLC 7ER closures is just a head fake to get the senior Captains to bite on an ERP? They publish the results, then offer an ERP. After a few hundred of them take the ERP to avoid commuting or training on the A350, and then in a few weeks they cancel the bid and do an AE that’s much more palatable. Would the timeline be too tight to pull that all off?

IF you drive to work. Varies hugely by base. DTW is apx 65% commuter, MSP 16, ATL 35, NYC, 75. In DTW almost 90% 350 both seats commute, 330 75 both, 7ER ~72%A, 63B.

So avg ~75% of DTW 644 position losses or ~480 pilots might just commute to other bases to either stay on their acft or better seniority. I see ATL getting hit hard with the cascade and doing far more of the bid down to stay in base

Probably one of the steps ahead they are thinking.

This is a 365 day bid. So its the longest time window available for things to play out.

Forget which of the many Co. memo’s it was in, but I recall that the 7ER closures weren’t going to be until 2Q 21’(?) so lots of time to walk that back in a 365’

IMHO, they want to scare the senior pilots to take early retirements. 20% from the top is more cost effective than 20% from the bottom. The senior 2014 hire still halfway through the payscale.

Im a fairly senior pilot and they ain’t scarin’ me into doing anything. If it’s a reasonable ERP I will consider it. Senior guys don’t scare easily if at all.

If they do a lump sum which appears to be the case for the non-cons, the calculus for former NWA with frozen pensions changes. If they give you money for an HSA or equivalent and you are on Tricare it changes as well

‘If they cancel the bid, they cancel pilots going to UNA too. If that’s the case, they should have offered an ERP first, gotten some takers and then offered it again when the bid was active. Now it just kinda seems a waste of time unless it’s something decent.

I think most of the senior pilots are going to sit at home getting full pay and benefits waiting on training..Then the day of training they will retire.

Yes it does. We will just have to see what is negotiated and what seniority and age is being targeted.
