I’m really curious about the background of that junior upgrader. As a new hire I would NOT feel ready to sit left seat that quickly, even with prior 121 experience. Perhaps if I had already been in the left seat of the same jet previously… but still. I’d want some time to learn the DAL way of doing things for a while.

Each to his own, but if you,ve done it once it's really not that hard to do it again. You will have to hustle a little in training to learn all the CA-specific stuff but you can get a lot out of IOE if you ask a lot of questions. I wouldn't take a seat lock or a commute over that, if the left seat is where you want to be, and can hold it.

Some of them have zero 121 time so they will have about a year of right seat time before they can actually upgrade to the left seat.

Exactly. 1000 hours of part 121 time required, and 500 hours at Delta.

“If the mins weren’t good enough, they wouldn’t be the mins.”

Just curious about upgrade, when does captain pay start? If someone has to wait a year to "officially" upgrade, do they get captain pay before training and/or IOE or does it start the day after IOE complete?
