Hey all,
How far off am I on the following pro/con lists for a commuter (MCO to NYC)?
NYC7ER Pros:
Relative seniority - can hold a line within 18-24 months.
Possible domestic layovers at home airport.
NYC7ER Cons:
Multi-leg days.
Non-commutable trips.
Less pay than 765.
NYC765 Pros:
Pay about 13% more.
Commutable start and end times.
NYC765 Cons:
Seniority - 3-5+ years of weekend reserve.
Seems like commuting to 765 as a new hire is pretty poor QOL for not that much more pay. Am i under/over estimating the reality of anything on this list?
TIA!

I do not think it will take 18-24 months to hold a line in NYC7ER. Maybe 6 months after OE as long as we keep hiring at this pace
some MCO layovers In NYC but I think more in ATL.
for the most part NYC 7ER trips are 1-2 legs a day. I’ve seen 3 and even 4 but most are 1-2

I'm rapidly talking myself out of considering 765 above 7ER if it's available. Are there any arguments for 765 that should keep it on the table for a commuter?
Is it accurate to say that 'schedule predictability' is the biggest QOL difference between reserve and holding a line?

Well, you'll be on reserve on both for a bit (obviously longer on the 765). The trips and reports and layovers should be better on the 765. If you don't like the 765,I THINK you and bid down to the 7ER in 8 months with no training. Other peeps can verify this. So, kinda a no lose proposition. IMO

IMO as someone who also has done a FL-NY commute, the ER would be my #1 choice.
yes schedule predictably and schedule flexibility are two big differences. Also days worked is usually lower as a lineholder. ( 17 days of reserve pays 72-80 hours, 17 days as a lineholder would pay a minimum 89:15)

I'm NYC local (closest to EWR) and for the life of me still can't choose. Class in less than a month. Keep going back and forth between 73N, 7ER and 765.

Do the ER! Best trips I’ve seen. Also I’ll be about 7 months on property and will be about 60% seniority on the ER in September (according to WS).

if you have not done long haul flying before, I would be hesitant to bid the 765. If you start doing it and realize it’s not your thing the only way out for the next 2 years is to bid CA. If you bid the ER you can try Europe/SA flying and if you don’t like it bid domestic next month. this is something CAs have told me

Five years on the whale going round the world. The 765 flying sounds MUCH more civilized than that!
