It has nothing to do with X base getting X layovers. OOB flying doesn't help the staffing formula, but reserves and premium flying does, not to mention more premium puts more money into pilot pockets. So the pilot flying OOB trips while trying to get to a base, are working against themselves. Most pilots came from the regionals who allowed so much OOB flying because it was probably a great way to keep the pilot count down.
At this point, OOBWS is costing the company much more than it’s saving them. The number of pilots who acknowledge OOBWS rotations is incredibly low compared to the number of pilots who auto-accept them. Management wants OOBWS gone more than pilots do, and they would love nothing more than to get away with getting rid of it for free.
(Not saying that you personally are advocating to get rid of OOBWS for free. But others are.)

What drives pilot payroll even higher are OOBWS auto-accepts that force the company to pay M7 to access a SC RES, or M7 + GS/IA/QS (for 300% pay).

Ya man, 100% with you on not giving it away for free. But leverage is only good if you actually use it and there are plenty of things to address in our contract. Who knows maybe this will help early negotiations and/or an timely contract. But ya, it would need to be a pretty big quid for that exchange. There are plenty of things that would be much more beneficial to the group over keeping OOBWS where it is now.

I agree our policy sucks. The 2 hr break is ridiculous and needs to go away, a JS res shouldn’t require a backup. Quick easy two off the top of my head that I would like to see.

Like I said, we need commuting fixes but that feels like a Section 6 issue.
We gotta cover open time. Outside of reserves let’s make it as easy as possible to get those trips covered as premium pay. I’m sure there’s a couple ways to skin this problem.
