interesting discussion unfolding worldwide as to how long will everyone put up with ONE country holding so much of the ‘global economy’ hostage. Especially one that seems to be loathed by its people. How sustainable is that?

The strait is extremely important to the entire global economy including us.
Even if it is more important to them, they are willing to sacrifice themselves much more than we are right now. Sure, eventually they'll have to give up, but I wouldn't underestimate their resolve. In the mean time Americans are going to grow increasingly upset as they watch their 401ks plummet, food become more expensive, airline ticket prices sky rocket, and their family members die overseas. We'll win eventually, but it's not gonna be quick and painless.
Bond yields are up significantly too, so good luck to any Americans trying to get a cheap mortgage.

Exactly what points are you trying to make?

So are you implying that US citizens are a bunch of wusses? Or that Europe shouldn’t be expected to help defend the freedom of passage in the strait? Or that it simply doesn’t matter if homicidal theocratic thugs who have been killing Americans for decades get a nuke or an ICBM that can deliver it?

But yes, Americans are definitely soft compared to populations who have grown up under dictatorships and endured wars. We have been lucky. We freak out at the slightest inconvenience now and, last I checked, we are still a democracy, so popular opinion matters. Iran is a theocratic dictatorship so popular opinion matters far less over there (until they revolt, which isn't going to be anytime soon).

I completely tune out the people who said we would be recovering from COVID right about now and that the great tariff stock market crash of April 2025 was going to be the next Great Depression.

None of the above. I'm just saying it's not going to be a quick fix to just magically open the strait back up to normal traffic.

So revolt right about now looks incredibly unlikely.

Kinda related but unrelated. We just lost a tanker in friendly airspace in Iraq. Reach out to your tanker friends today.
