Flying out of CHS with the wifey-pooh today and had an interesting conversation with a Delta gate agent. She sated that, recently, five Delta "pilot types" had been through visiting the Boeing facility there. She thought it was funny that they had their boss with them and that he was, actually, the youngest one and that it struck here as unusual seeing the others yielding to him.....makes you go hhhmmmmmm.......when I came back from furlough in 2007, the final check in the schoolhouse was done by a Delta dude who had been tapped to go to the 777 program to get experience......according to him, his twin brother was involved in NWA's 787 program. He stated that Delta did not want that version....they REALLY wanted the 787-900.... Better a/c with more seats and long range....it makes since that would be the reason to defer the earlier airframes....just swap them for later -900 when they become available....who knows....maybe there's a great deal since we took all the delays on the earlier version....who is the US launch customer for the 787-900? Inquiring minds and all...now....back to my cartoons.....

Eventually 787-900's will fly from Detroit to all those giant cities in China that we don't even know the names of now. I don't know the statistic, but they have some unbelievable number of cities bigger than LA and most people (including me) have never heard of them.
Will DCI be flying those too? |

No f'ing way! It will be by our skyteam partners China Southern, Eastern and future member Xiamen airlines. Flying those will be deemed "not our core business" by management and " a solid base hit by alpa" by capturing 3% raises(offset by a reduction in profit sharing of course) for 4 years and a no furlough clause. By allowing this, it helps Delta avoid the massive training that would otherwise be required with 500-800 retirements per year. Not having to worry about the 100 seat and below for domestic or the new generation ultra long haul flying will allow Delta to be wildly profitable and execute their plan years earlier than without the " cooperation of the 6000 alpa represented professional pilots who understand the time value of money". That is what I call bi-winning.

On another note. Jumpseat booking question. Is it 5 1/2, 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 have days now? And if so, if I wanted a jumpseat "To work" on say the 13th of July I could book it by noon mecca time on the 7th or 8th? Thanks
