  • Minimum Lavatory Deferral Standards - No flight may depart with less than one operative lavatory on a flight exceeding 60 minutes without prior coordination and approval from SOCC...
If this is the official Delta edict, then ASA was just following orders.

BUT...did the Captain make the, "We have no lav, so Pee before you GO!" PA??

And how long would it take to let everyone off to use the airport facility, then reboard them...?

Deferring the only lav is unacceptable irregardless as to whether you make a lav inop announcement. Back in the 19 seat turboprop days it wasn't uncommon to have a pax go in a bottle and that was on a flight less than an hour.

Next subject please.

"irregardless" is not a word, and why move to the next subject? this is somewhat interesting...would you cancel a 60 min flight for no lav?

Some may say it is not a word and yet it exists in the dictionary. Grammar police such as yourself are under the opinion that regardless should be used instead. That is fine by me as I don't really care either way, but thanks for calling me out.

Speaking of opinions. A lavatory, if the only lavatory on board, should be a required item. I speak of this from experience operating 50 seat RJs and smaller turboprops. So yes, my opinion is you fix the lav or cancel the flight.

Perhaps there should be a DCI thread where items such as this could be discussed.

On an RJ, it is a bucket with a flapper valve and a drain. It can not really break. Most deferrals seem to relate to ground handlers refusing to service it and the crew eventually saying "no"

ir·re·gard·less   [ir-i-gahrd-lis]
adverb, Nonstandard
regardless

Origin:
1910–15; ir-2 (probably after irrespective ) + regardless

Can be confused:  irregardless, regardless (see usage note at the current entry ).

Usage note
Irregardless is considered nonstandard because of the two negative elements ir- and -less. It was probably formed on the analogy of such words as irrespective, irrelevant, and irreparable. Those who use it, including on occasion educated speakers, may do so from a desire to add emphasis. Irregardless first appeared in the early 20th century and was perhaps popularized by its use in a comic radio program of the 1930s.

Hoser, in regards to your golden day incident, have you contacted Curtis over at ALPA? He's the former scheduler and worth talking to. Just follow the command prompts on the phone when you call there and you'll get him. He's helped me twice thus far.
