I'm going to start sending an ACARS message to the dispatcher at exactly Push Time if we are running late, and tell him why we are not pushing (waiting on xyz), so at least there will be a record of it.

"The cockpit is fully ready, waiting on..."

IMO, and I haven't thought this all the way through, this measure, plus the ones before it, are symptomatic of a structural dysfunction within the DAL internal wiring diagram. IOW, Flt Ops, ACS, MX, InFlt, etc. are all co-equal within the DAL structure. There should be a hierarchy. This maybe just a bandaid attempt at a solution...Or

Maybe if FltOps is really making an effort to data mine for the REAL reason for a delayed push, the phonecall method may well be the best short-term solution. It's a little wasteful cost-wise, but for cryin out loud, the pilots push as soon as the doors are closed and the cabin is ready for pushback. Personally, I don't think to put in a delay code until either prompted by the acars or if the situation was gross buffoonery on someone's part.

Instead of the phonecall, if the acars prompted me for a code and a short text explanation everytime we pushed 1 minute late or 1 minute + after turning on the beacon, it wouldn't be too intrusive and they'd get their data.

Anyone else notice that lately there has been alot of push from operations to board up early when dealing with maintenance. I've had it happen twice now where the captain has told them to hold up until maintenance has time to give an accurate assessment as to how long the work will take.

One of those time we boarded up per the red coats requests, advised of a lengthy delay, so then deplaned. It just happened for whatever reason maintenance was able to re-diagnose the issue and sign it off much sooner, so we go ahead and reboard the passengers 15 minutes after we deplaned. I'm sorry, but with calls like that we look like a bunch of amateurs, boarding/deplaning/boarding up again all in the space of 30 minutes.

So is this a 1/2 clutter? :D

That's the C-5M Super Galaxy with CF-6 engines instead of the old TF-39's. It can now blast off max weight at 120F in the desert in about 6,000 ft. Also, from the looks of it, it can takeoff underwater. Go Freddie Go!!

The C-5M Super Galaxy looks pretty impressive! For the first :20 I was thinking "What's the big deal?" & then they actually hit the water. :D

I wonder what our five year plan is???

Gate Latency Foolishness

Pushing back from DTW the agent is so worked up about not being late that we pushed with 161 passenges on a 160 seat jet.

Oops! Felt bad for the dude who through no fault of his own had to do the "walk of shame" down the aisle. Then to add insult to injury he had to wait 5 minutes in the galley since the gate agent promptly absconded after pulling the jetway away and had to be called back.

Lots of fun in SLC last night. Freezing fog, holding, RVRs 800-1200 for hours, SMGCS Ops, and lots of DCI Jets diverting to alternates. What are most RJ minimums anyway?

One daring aviator (I will not mention what airline) not be deterred by WX apparantly below mins used the following technique which is not recommended:

One RJ goes around for WX below mins. Tower reads the WX to the next RJ who says "We are inside the FAF we can continue."

WTTF??? Hopefully the wx was above their minimus since it hadn't changed for over 20 minutes but if it was above minimums his response was strange to say the least.

Anybody know when we're supposed to find out the amount of our profit sharing check? I think my wife's already spent it....but just curious.
